Johns Hopkins announced Friday morning that new head coach Peter Milliman will add Jamison Koesterer to his staff as defensive coordinator.
Koesterer spent the past four years at UMBC in the same position, helping turn around a unit that finished 56th in scoring defense in 2016. That improved to 19th nationally in 2017 and first nationally in 2018 at 7.77 goals per game. The Retrievers ranked second in this shortened 2020 season.
This is a return to Homewood Field for Koesterer, who won national championships at Johns Hopkins as a player in 2005 and 2007 under ex-head coach Dave Pietramala. He was also a volunteer assistant with the Blue Jays from 2011-12.
In his playing career from 2004-07, he scored seven goals and added 12 assists with 101 ground balls. He also won 176 of 318 (.553) career faceoffs and helped guide the Blue Jays to a 51-11 record.
βI am thrilled to welcome Jamison back to Johns Hopkins,β Milliman said in the announcement. βHe has a demonstrated record of success as both a player and coach, and his passion for the University and the program was evident throughout the interview process. His past experiences at UMBC, Ohio State and here at Johns Hopkins have prepared him well for this position and I know that the men in our program will very much enjoy playing for him.β
