Kara Mupo, one of the most decorated women’s lacrosse players in recent memory, has been named the fifth head coach in George Mason program history.
Mupo replaces Jessy Morgan, who had been with the team since August 2014.
The two-time NCAA champion as a player with Northwestern (2011-12) has brought her coaching talents to several stops in recent years. She was an assistant for Stony Brook in 2018, the year the Seawolves earned a No. 1 national ranking.
The following year, she was an assistant for a Stanford team that earned an NCAA tournament appearance. During the shortened 2020 season, Mupo was an assistant with Ohio State. She was also an assistant at William & Mary from 2016-17.
“We are thrilled to welcome Kara to our George Mason family,” athletic director Brad Edwards said. “She has achieved an elite level of success during every stint of her career while being mentored by some of the top voices in the sport.”
Mupo won the first WPLL championship as a member of the Command and led the league in goals that season. Mupo was a member of the 2015-16 U.S. women’s national team.
