NAIROBI, Kenya — The road to San Diego 2023 continues this week, as the 2022 Africa Association of Lacrosse Men’s World Qualifier takes place on Saturday at the Kenton College Preparatory School in Nairobi, with Kenya and Uganda facing off for the final spot in next year’s world championship field. 

Twenty-nine spots in San Diego have been secured already, with 10 automatic qualifiers and 19 entrants that cemented their spot through qualification in the three other continental regions. 

Uganda participated in the last two men’s championships (2014 and 2018), while Kenya is looking to make its debut at the tournament. Both teams competed at the recent men’s U20 championship in August in Ireland, with Kenya finishing two spots ahead of Uganda. 

AAL President Rufus Ntiamoah said: "The AAL is excited to host its first qualifier for a world championship, a deserved cap to the Continental Federation’s successful first year. We are grateful to Kenya Lacrosse for its efforts to stage this game, and wish both Uganda and Kenya the best of luck in this decisive contest."

The two teams will play Saturday at 11 a.m. local time (UTC +3), with updates available via World Lacrosse, Uganda Lacrosse and Kenya Lacrosse social media channels. 

Following the AAL qualifier, the full field for the 2023 Men’s Championship will be finalized and World Lacrosse will release the pools and schedule for the competition in the coming months. The previous world championship rankings determined the number of allocation spots awarded to each Continental Federation.
