SPARKS, Md. — US Lacrosse today announced Le Moyne women’s coach and defending national champion Kathy Taylor as a featured speaker for girls’ lacrosse coaches at the 2019 US Lacrosse Convention (LaxCon), set for Jan. 11-13 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.
Taylor, entering her fifth year at Le Moyne, led the Dolphins to the 2018 NCAA Division II championship. The national title marked the program’s first, on the heels of another first — its fourth straight trip to the final four. The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association named her its national coach of the year.
“I’ve been to several US Lacrosse Conventions during my career and always come away having learned skills and drills to apply as a coach,” Taylor said. “I’m honored to speak at the upcoming convention and am looking forward to giving back to high school and youth coaches in attendance.”
Taylor has guided 16 IWLCA All-Americans during her tenure at Le Moyne, compiling a 77-10 record and one Northeast-10 Conference tournament championship. Prior to that, Taylor served as the head coach at NCAA Division III Cortland State for six seasons, leading the Red Dragons to six straight SUNYAC tournament titles and four trips to the NCAA semifinals. She was a longtime, successful high school coach before moving to Cortland in the fall of 2008.
Taylor was inducted into the Upstate New York Chapter of US Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2010, and she is currently serving a three-year term as president of the IWLCA. Taylor played lacrosse at Cornell, where in 1984 she became the Big Red’s first All-Ivy League first-team honoree.
“Kathy Taylor has been a championship-caliber coach at multiple levels of play, and we’re thrilled that a coach of her experience will speak to attendees at LaxCon,” Kim Rogers, director of events at US Lacrosse, said.
LaxCon represents lacrosse’s largest educational event and trade show, drawing upwards of 7,000 each year to learn the game, network with others in the community, and then develop the sport locally upon returning home. Members of US Lacrosse save $40 on registration, which is expected to begin shortly after Labor Day.
