John's Wagner's overtime goal kept No. 16 Marquette unbeaten and handed No. 7 Ohio State an 8-7 loss, the Buckeyes first of the season.
Detroit beat Bellarmine 11-5 in the opening game of the Midwest Lacrosse Classic in Pontiac, Mich.
Ohio State (4-1) rallied in the final seconds to force overtime on Sunday at Jacksonville and then won it in the extra frame. They had to come-from-behind again against Marquette. Jack Jasinski and Lukas Buckley scored the only goals of the fourth quarter to send it into overtime, but couldn't pick up the win this time.
Buckley's goal tied it 7-7 with 7:54 left in the fourth quarter and the Buckeyes had two extra-man opportunities down the stretch, but were unable to convert. Ohio State goalie Matthew Smith made two saves in the final three minutes of regulation to help send it to overtime.
Marquette's Zachary Melillo won the faceoff to start overtime, but Smidt came up with another save to give the Buckeyes a chance at the other end. Marquette's Cole Blazer made a save with 2:23 remaining in overtime and with 1:18 remaining in overtime, Wagner delivered the game-winner, leading Marquette to its first win over Ohio State since 2015.

Wagner and Anthony Orsini each had two goals and an assist for Marquette (3-0) and Blazer finished with seven saves.
Jasinski and Buckley led the Buckeyes with two goals each and Smidt made 10 saves.
In the opener, Detroit shut down Bellarmine behind 14 saves from freshman goalie Logan Shamblin and a career-high six caused turnovers by senior midfielder Charlie Hayes.
Detroit (2-3) outscored Bellarmine 5-0 in the opening period and never trailed in the game. Alec Gilhooly led the Titans with three goals.
Brian Wall had three goals for Bellarmine (1-4), Michael Autry won 12-of-20 faceoffs and John Hulsman made 13 saves.
The Midwest Lacrosse Classic wraps up on Sunday with Bellarmine meeting Marquette and Detroit playing Ohio State.
