The 28-team field for the 2019 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship was revealed on Sunday night and as expected, Maryland tops the field as the No. 1 seed. Right behind the Terps is No.2 Boston College. Both teams went undefeated until losing in their respective conference championship games.
Taking the next two seeds are the teams that beat them in the conference finals. North Carolina, which beat Boston College in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game, is the No. 3 seed. Northwestern, which won the Big Ten title today over Maryland, is the No. 4 seed.
The ACC finished with four of the top six seeds with Syracuse claiming the No. 5 seed and Virginia being slated at No. 6.
Ivy League champion Princeton is the No. 7 seed and the final seeded position went to Michigan at No. 8. This is the first NCAA tournament appearance for the Wolverines.
The top eight seeds will serve as hosts sites for the first and second rounds and the top six seeds receive a bye into the second round.
Tournament action begins with a pair of opening round games on Tuesday. Southern Conference champion Mercer plays Atlantic Sun champion Jacksonville in one game while Northeast Conference champion Wagner meets Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion Fairfield in the other game.
Johns Hopkins University will serve as the host for championship weekend, hosting the semifinals on Friday, May 24 and the championship game on Sunday, May 26 at historic Homewood Field.
