Maryland men’s lacrosse has joined the elite company of undefeated Division I champions.

The Terps completed the 18-0 season with a 9-7 win over Cornell in the NCAA championship game. Logan McNaney made 17 saves and Anthony DeMaio scored four first-half goals to allow the Terps' to jump out to a large lead and hold off Cornell late.

Neither team got a hold on the game in the first half, trading turnovers and saves in a low-scoring first 15 minutes. McNaney picked up six saves to keep the Cornell offense at bay and help a DeMaio-led Terps’ offense carry a 4-1 lead into the second quarter.

DeMaio’s had a hat trick in the first quarter, and his hot shooting continued into the second quarter with another pinpoint shot. Wisnauskas added his first goal late in the first half, and McNaney made three more saves to give Maryland the 7-2 lead at the break.

Wisnauskas scored a beautiful low-to-high goal to cap a two-goal run in the third quarter to give Maryland the 9-2 lead. Aiden Blake and Michael Long scored on either side of the fourth quarter to cut the Terps’ lead to five goals, but the Maryland defense forced low-percentage shots throughout the second half to prevent a comeback. Cornell had one last rally in the fourth quarter, getting goals from Hugh Kelleher, Spencer Wirthiem and John Piatelli to cut the deficit to two goals, but McNaney made three saves in the final minutes to keep Maryland in the lead late.
