For just the third time in history and the first time in the regular season, Maryland and Navy squared off in an Old Line State showdown at College Park.

No. 15 Maryland was on the positive end of a blowout, as the Terps topped the Mids 16-7. Kali Hartshorn, Brindi Griffin and Hannah Warther each scored three times. Maddie McSally made 11 saves as Maryland improved to 2-3.

Navy (2-3) coach Cindy Timchal coached the Terps from 1991-2006. There's another former Terp coaching for Navy, too. Megan Taylor, last year’s Tewaaraton winner after taking championship weekend by storm, is a volunteer assistant.

Four Big Scorers Lead Michigan

Chandler Kirby scored a team-high five goals and Molly Garrett, Kaitlyn Mead and Caitlin Muir each scored four goals as No. 10 Michigan topped Vanderbilt, 20-13. Vanderbilt, of course, had just upset then-No. 12 Denver on Sunday.

Vandy (4-2) scored the first goal of the game, but Michigan (5-1) quickly erased the early deficit and never trailed after Muir scored unassisted for a 2-1 lead.

Mikela McCauley cut the deficit to 11-8 with 19:21 left in the contest, but Michigan pulled away with a 4-0 run.

A Career First for Amy Altig

Delaware head coach Amy Altig earned her first career victory with the Blue Hens’ 17-8 win over Duquesne at Delaware Stadium.

Eight Blue Hens scored, but Christine Long led the charge with five goals. Long surpassed 100 career goals during the game and has scored at least one goal in 21 straight games. Delaware is 1-3.

Notable

• Denver (5-1) bounced back from its loss to Vanderbilt with a 20-6 win over Fresno State. Bea Behrins, Eliza Radochonski and Quintin Hoch-Bullen each had six points.

• Penn State was No. 16 last week but big loss to Loyola bumped the Nittany Lions from the rankings entirely. Now No. 19 James Madison (4-1) has dealt them another blow in a 16-6 loss. Kacey Knobloch, Taylor Marchetti and Maddie McDaniel each scored three times for JMU.

• Virginia Tech (7-1) ran its winning streak to six games for the first time in program history in a 23-3 win over William and Mary. Paige Petty scored seven goals for the second time this season.

• Virginia (5-2) recovered from its 0-2 week by defeating George Mason 14-8. Nora Bowen scored four goals, and Charlie Campbell made nine saves.
