McDonogh (Md.) did not stay subdued very long.

The Eagles, whose epic 198-game winning streak ended in last year’s IAAM-A Conference championship game, are back in the top spot of the Nike/US Lacrosse High School Girl’s National Top 25 after narrowly defeating previous No. 1 Manhasset (N.Y.) 8-7 in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown Saturday on Long Island.

Manhasset (N.Y.) slots in at No. 2, with unbeaten Mount Sinai (N.Y.), Moorestown (N.J.) and Darien (Conn.) rounding out the Top 5.

This is the first of four monthly updates to the rankings, including Regional Top 10 lists for teams representing the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West. The second update will be May 7.

Four teams that were not ranked in the Preseason Top 25 — Episcopal Academy (Pa.), Marriotts Ridge (Md.), Spencerport (N.Y.) and West Genesee (N.Y.) — move into the National Top 25.

Mid-Atlantic Top 10

1. McDonogh (Md.), 9-0

McDonogh had its first true scare of the season on April 4 as St. Paul’s (Md.) took it to overtime. The Eagles prevailed and remain unbeaten after following that with a notable 8-7 win over Manhasset (N.Y.) — a game in which they stalled for several minutes after taking the lead, prompting Manhasset coach Meghan Clarke to say high school rulemakers should follow the lead of the NCAA and implement a shot clock, according to Newsday. McDonogh will host regional No. 5 Bishop Ireton on April 12 and IAAM-A conference rival Notre Dame Prep on April 25. Previous: 1

2. Moorestown (N.J.), 4-0

Moorestown is off to a hot start to the season, including stunning No. 6 Georgetown Visitation (D.C.), 11-10 behind a six-goal performance from Virginia Tech commit Kayla Frank. The Quakers are about to face some tough in-state competition, including an April 24 date with rival Ridgewood, ranked No. 4 regionally. Previous: 5

3. Glenelg (Md.), 4-1

The Gladiators turned some heads with their 8-5 victory over Notre Dame Prep, and a recent loss to Marriotts Ridge shouldn’t derail them. Coach Nicole Trunzio’s team has several big games coming up on the schedule with St. Paul’s, Bishop Ireton and St. Stephen & St. Agnes. Previous: 7

4. Ridgewood (N.J.), 6-0

The Maroons have won 21 of their last 22 games with the lone loss in that stretch coming against Moorestown in the Tournament of Champions final last year. Their quick start to this season includes a 14-8 win over Oak Knoll (N.J.), as Keely Bennett and Annie McCarthy each had three goals. Ridgewood also owns a win over Georgetown Visitation. Previous: 9

5. Bishop Ireton (Va.), 6-2

The Cardinals are riding a four-game winning streak that includes a huge 10-9 victory over No. 6 Georgetown Visitation. Briana Lantuh scored the game-winning goal with a little more than a minute left on the clock. Bishop Ireton has several big Mid-Atlantic tests coming up on the schedule, including games against No. 1 McDonogh on April 12 and No. 3 Glenelg on April 17. Previous: 2

6. Georgetown Visitation (D.C.), 6-3

The Tigers dropped some tough games to ranked opponents in the last couple weeks but all three of their losses were by one goal. Despite the challenging schedule, Jane McAvoy has already scored 44 goals, Katie Castiello leads the area with 24 assists and goaltender Maggie Lyons has made 124 saves. Previous: 4

7. Summit (N.J.), 4-0

Katia Carnevale had six goals and Anna Huntley Robertson had seven assists in the Hilltoppers’ 14-7 victory over Northern Highlands (N.J.) recently. Summit hasn’t been tested much yet but will face regional No. 6 Georgetown Visitation on April 11 and No. 4 Ridgewood on April 20. Previous: NR

The Blazers, coming off a tough loss to Glenelg in early April, have won three straight, including an 11-10 win in double overtime at Bryn Mawr as Nancy Halleron scored the game-winning goal. NDP has upcoming dates with Roland Park Country, St. Paul’s and a rematch of last season’s IAAM-A conference championship game against No. 1 McDonogh on April 25. Previous: 3

9. Episcopal Academy (Pa.), 7-0

Episcopal claimed a 13-10 victory at Agnes Irwin (Pa.) and handed Notre Dame Academy (Pa.) its first loss, 11-7, as the Churchmen improved to 3-0 league play. In the victory over Agnes Irwin, Olivia Dirks (Penn State) registered six goals, two assists and 10 draw controls. Previous: NR

10. St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (Va.), 9-1

The Saints have won five in a row since dropping a stunning 18-8 loss to Lake Highland Prep (Fla.) in late March. They are out to regain dominance in the DC ISL this season and have plenty of chances to prove themselves coming up. SSSA will face Holton-Arms on April 9 and then the Saints have a date with No. 6 Visitation on April 25. SSSA midfielder Kennan Moon (Penn) is off to a great start to her senior season with a total of 38 goals and 11 assists. Previous: 6

South Top 10

1. American Heritage-Delray (Fla.), 14-1

The Stallions have galloped off to a terrific start. Their only loss is to national No. 1 McDonogh (Md.). Otherwise, American Heritage has won every game by at least five goals, including an 8-3 win over Bishop Ireton (Va.), a 17-9 win over Lassiter (Ga.) and a 20-2 win over St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.). Previous: 1

2. Milton (Ga.), 12-1

The Eagles are undefeated in-state and have racked up noteworthy victories out of state, including a 23-9 win over Ponte Vedra (Fla.) and a 15-13 win over Bishop Ireton (Va.). Milton’s only loss is to Georgetown Visitation (D.C.). During a five-game stretch against Kincaid (Texas), Potomac (Va.), Hutchison (Tenn.), Lake Oswego (Ore.) and Ireton, Briana Cassasquillo totaled 20 goals and seven assists, and Skylar Carrasquillo had 16 goals. They’ve been led by Ainsley Thurston’s scoring and Ashley Thurston’s performance in the circle. Their lone losses are to American Heritage and St. Paul’s (Md.). Previous: NR

4. Bishop Moore (Fla.), 14-1

The Hornets set the tone early with a 13-12 win over Lassiter (Ga.). They’ve been winning close games ever since, including a 12-11 decision at Pine Crest (Fla.), an 11-8 victory at IMG Academy (Fla.) and a 15-14 win at home against Mill Creek (Ga.). In total, Bishop Moore has won six games by three goals or less. Previous: 9

5. Weddington (N.C.), 11-0

The Warriors have been stellar despite some tough road goals, including a 10-9 win at Cardinal Gibbons in just their second game of the season and a 14-11 win at Charlotte Latin (N.C.) four days later. They’ll need to channel their inner warrior once again for the grueling stretch of games they have coming, from Marvin Ridge (N.C.) to Lake Norman (N.C.) to a second battle with Charlotte Latin. Previous: NR

6. Ponte Vedra (Fla.), 11-2

Since a season-opening loss to Milton (Ga.), the Sharks have won 11 of their last 12 games with their lone loss coming against nationally-ranked St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes. Ponte Vedra seems to have a knack for winning close games, from its first win of the season, an 13-11 decision  over Walton (Ga.) to some of its most recent victories, such as a 12-9 victory over Bartram Trail (Fla.) and 11-10 against West Forsyth (Ga.). Previous: NR

7. Lassiter (Ga.), 7-6

Give the Trojans credit for taking on a brutal schedule. They’ve played some of the best teams in the Sunshine State, including one-goal losses to Bishop Moore and IMG Academy, as well as more lopsided losses against Lake Highland Prep and American Heritage-Delray. Lassiter has yet to lose a game within the state of Georgia. Previous: 4

With a 13-7 victory over Hockaday (Texas), Episcopal takes the top spot in The Lone Star State. The Eagles have scored 13-plus goals in every single one of their games so far. Previous: NR

9. Harpeth Hall (Tenn.), 9-0

The Honeybears are the real deal. Not only did they knock off eight-time defending state champion Hutchison, but they outscored the Sting, Brentwood (Tenn.), St. Mary’s Episcopal (Tenn.) and Ensworth (Tenn.), 70-25, over a four-game road trip. An April 16 trip to Ravenwood (Tenn.) offers another huge chance for Harpeth Hall to prove itself. Previous: NR

10. Hockaday (Texas), 9-3

The Daisies appear to have overcome three straight losses, all against strong competition. They have won six straight, including impressive victories over Walton (Ga.) and Highland Park (Texas). Previous: 5
