Dialed In: Your Lacrosse Fix for Monday, April 24
Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. Rivalry Weekend yielded some big results.
Johns Hopkins ended five years of misery against Maryland, earning a first-round bye for the Big Ten men’s lacrosse tournament and Army also reversed recent trends with a win over Navy.
2. It’s been anything but a normal spring for Duke's Sophia LeRose.
Duke goalie Sophia LeRose has spent the spring battling the effects of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. She shared her struggles with our Kenny DeJohn on Friday.
3. Championship formulas rely on healthy stars.
Notre Dame got a scare when star goalie Liam Entenmann was injured in pre-game warmups on Saturday. He played brilliant anyways and the Irish looked sharp, both in play and gear, in a win over North Carolina. Also in The Post-Week Tailgate, Virginia made its own fashion statement, Penn State’s turnaround continued and things are happening in the Mountain region.
4. We’re headed to tournament time.
The ACC women’s lacrosse tournament opened on Sunday with wins for Duke and Virginia Tech and several other fields are set as we hit the final two weeks of the season before the NCAA tournament stops. The Sunday Slide looks at some of the big stories as we hit the homestretch.
5. What a night in Buffalo
Playing before a nationally-televised audience and a raucous crowd, Buffalo edged Toronto 11-10 to wrap up the No. 1 seed in the East in the National Lacrosse League. Chase Fraser had a highlight goal for the ages.
