Dialed In: Your Lacrosse Fix for Monday, Jan. 16
Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. It’s LaxCon Week.
The sport’s largest educational gathering kicks off on Friday at the Baltimore Convention Center. Nearly 100 jam-packed sessions for coaches and officials over three days and a one-day FanFest for players, parents and fans of the game. There’s still time to save with advance registration or FanFest tickets.
2. One of the best starts his next chapter.
Scott Ratliff, a 10-year professional veteran and a key cog in Loyola’s 2012 NCAA championship team, announced his retirement from the sport as a professional player
3. One unbeaten left in the NLL.
Rochester continued its surprising start, improving to 5-0 after beating New York 11-9 yesterday. Connor Fields had four goals in the win. Out west, San Diego suffered its first defeat of the season, losing a 19-16 shootout to Vancouver on Saturday night. Keegan Ball, Shawn Evans and Mitch Jones all had eight-point nights for Vancouver.
4. The best does her talking on the field.
Meaghan Tyrrell may be unassuming, but her star is rising. The Syracuse attacker is the USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Player of the Year.
5. A pair of Sweet 16 teams.
The USC women and Boston University men are No. 16 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse NCAA Division I preseason rankings.
6. The MVP with an MVP moment.
Taylor Cummings, MVP of last summer’s World Lacrosse Women’s Championship, was out west last week doing a series of clinics. Another former national teamer, Kyle Harrison, shared this epic picture from the trip.
