September 11, 2023
Brian Logue

Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. Remembering those lost.

Today, we remember those lost in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, including at least 75 people connected to the lacrosse community. Here’s a list of those individuals and some of the stories we produced for the 20th anniversary in 2021.

2. The regular season champ vs. the defending champ.

The PLL’s regular season champion, Archers LC, will meet last year’s champion, Waterdogs LC, for the 2023 PLL championship on Sept. 24.

Grant Ament had a goal and three assists in the opening quarter to stake the Archers to a 4-0 lead and they were never threated in a 14-6 win over the Redwoods on Sunday at Hofstra. Ament finished with three goals, including a two-pointer, and four assists while Brett Dobson was lights out with 18 saves.

After a two-point goal by the Cannons’ Chris Aslanian early the second quarter tied the game 3-3, the Waterdogs scored the next 12 points in a dominating 17-6 victory. Connor Kelly, Michael Sowers and Ethan Walker each scored three times for the Waterdogs and Dillon Ward made 13 saves. Zach Currier also won 12 of 17 faceoffs to go along with two goals and two assists.

3. The Canadians are coming.

Canada has announced its men’s roster for the 2023 USA Lacrosse Fall Classic, set for Oct. 13-15 at USA Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md. It’s loaded with young stars including Tye Kurtz, Owen Grant, Thomas McConvey, Drake Porter and Dyson Williams.

4. The coaching carousel has been spinning.

Nearly 20 NCAA Division I men’s and women’s programs will have new head coaches for 2024. A look at the off-season changes.

5. Rogers returns to Cortland State.

Lelan Rogers is headed back to Cortland State for a second stint as the head men’s lacrosse coach at the longtime Division III power. He led the Red Dragons to four league titles and five NCAA tournaments during his first stint (2001-2005).
