Dialed In: Your Lacrosse Fix for Thursday, April 6
Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. Maryland women’s lacrosse improved to 25-0 all time against Johns Hopkins, but the Terps didn’t cruise to an easy Big Ten win.
Trailing 11-10 with 8:37 left after Georgie Gorelick scored for the Jays, Maryland ripped off three straight — one each by Shaylan Ahearn, Libby May and Kori Edmondson — to take a 13-11 lead. Maeve Barker scored with 2:10 left to cut the deficit to one, but Shannon Smith won the next draw for Maryland, and the Jays never took another shot on cage.

3. East Stroudsburg’s Xeni Barakos-Yoder is back from medical leave after welcoming her second child in February.
Barakos-Yoder guided East Stroudsburg to a 10-9 win over Kutztown in her return on Wednesday. In her stead, interim head coach Rachel Ward led the Warriors to an 8-2 mark.
4. For the first time in history, Florida is No. 1 in the MCLA Division I Coaches Poll.
The Gators moved up from No. 4 last week, grabbing 12 first-place votes. Overall, seven teams in the Division I coaches poll received at least one first-place vote.
5. Rhode Island is still the clear leader in MCLA Division II, but Cal State San Marcos is surging at No. 2.
The Cougars received four first-place votes to Rhode Island’s 23, but CSSM is on the rise after sitting in the No. 3 spot last week.
6. Williams College goalie Matt Freitas had part of his leg amputated after a car accident on Jan. 4, 2013.
He thinks the accident happened so he would work harder than others. Emma Healy tells Freitas’ story of perseverance in our April “Unlimited” edition.
