Dialed In: Your Lacrosse Fix for Thursday, July 20
Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel delivered decisions on changes for 2024.
The PROP announced a series of women’s rule changes, including the expansion of one-minute releasable penalties, but rescinded a proposal that would have introduced 6-v-6 play and 11-v-11 in total.
In men’s lacrosse, video review has been expanded on the heels of a controversial goal that won Duke its semifinal over Penn State. Coaches can now challenge plays within certain guidelines, and referees can initiate reviews as well.
2. Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse season three is officially here.
The new season kicks off this evening at 5 p.m. Eastern from USA Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md. Teams will play doubleheaders on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday before another draft on Monday to determine next weekend’s rosters.
Check out AU’s full broadcast schedule here.
3. Rules changes for high school and youth boys’ lacrosse were announced.
The National Federation of State High School Associations and USA Lacrosse collaborated to announce rules and equipment changes that further emphasize safety and rule enforcement.
4. Lucian Li, a rising sophomore at Kenyon, succumbed Tuesday to injuries sustained in a car accident.
Li was driving in his home state of Pennsylvania late last week when another driver struck his vehicle head on. Li had two passengers, both Kenyon teammates, who remain in critical but stable condition.
