Dialed In: Your Lacrosse Fix for Tuesday, Feb. 14
Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. We tore up our Division I men’s preseason rankings.
Loyola’s win over defending champion Maryland moved the Greyhounds from unranked to No. 4 in the latest Nike/USA Lacrosse Division I men’s rankings. Johns Hopkins, No. 16 last week and unranked to start the season, catapulted to No. 5 with an upset over Georgetown. The Hoyas and Terps move down to No. 8 and No. 10, respectively. Get the full pandemonium-style rankings.
2. Syracuse is moving up in the Division I women’s rankings.
Valentine’s Day is about red roses and blue violets. But the women’s Division I polls had an Orange rush. Syracuse’s one-goal win over old rival Northwestern, which booted the Orange from the NCAAs last year, earned it a No. 4 ranking. Virginia also rose. See the complete rankings.
3. Second-year Flagler on the rise in women’s Division II.
Flagler is only in its second year of existence, but the squad is making some big early moves. The previously-unranked Saints are off to a 2-0 start, catapulting them to No. 16. The top 15 remains unchanged, with East Stroudsburg remaining No. 1. St. Leo also enters the field at No. 17. Here’s the full list.
4. Shakeups in the Division II men’s poll.
Mercyhurst moves from No. 4 to No. 2, and Lenoir-Ryne rises three spots to No. 7 in a reshuffled men’s Division II poll. See who’s in, out, hot and not in this week’s polls.
5. Salisbury surges in Division III men’s rankings.
Division III had something of a soft launch, with many teams not yet seeing action. But the Sea Gulls’ 2-0 start pushed them from No. 6 to No. 2 to headline this week’s Nike/USA Lacrosse Division III men’s polls.
