Dialed In: Your Lacrosse Fix for Thursday, July 13
Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. Is it already time to fear the Denver offense?
Matt Brown, already an offensive mastermind, added legendary offensive coordinator David Metzbower to his staff on Wednesday. One of the top assistants of all time, Metzbower has won seven national championships in 37 years.
He spent 20 years with former Denver coach Bill Tierney at Princeton, winning six national championships and 14 Ivy League titles.
2. The 2023 USA Lacrosse Youth Nationals wrapped after 175 games in two days.
Hero’s Lacrosse Club brought home two of the three championships from DE Turf Sports Complex. Hero’s won in 13U and 14U, while the Yellow Jackets captured the 15U division.
3. Kevin Cassese is energized to be at Virginia.
Patrick Stevens checked in with Cassese and Lars Tiffany, the coaching duo hoping to lift Virginia back to the promised land. After 16 years as a head coach with Lehigh, Cassese is excited to work with the offensive pieces at his disposal.
4. To concede or not to concede? That is the question.
With the Premier Lacrosse League’s new faceoff rules, teams are getting creative to balance out their own FOGO shortcomings — like conceding the faceoff altogether. Jack Goods spoke with Connor Farrell and Tim Soudan about the ingenuity of letting the other team have possession.
