Towson faceoff specialist Alex Woodall, the first overall pick in the Major League Lacrosse draft and the fourth overall pick in the Premier Lacrosse League draft, has signed with MLL’s Atlanta Blaze, the league announced Wednesday.
Woodall, who won more than 74 percent of his faceoffs as a senior, was originally drafted by the Ohio Machine, then by the Blaze in a redraft held after MLL’s Charlotte, Florida and Ohio franchises ceased operations.
Woodall began his college career at High Point before transferring to Towson, where he became just the second player in school history to win at least 500 faceoffs.
Atlanta led MLL in faceoff percentage (52.9) last season.
The move punctuates a good offseason for the Blaze. They resigned attackman Tommy Palasek, defenseman Liam Byrnes and goalie Chris Madalon. Atlanta also has inked rookies TJ Comizio, Brett Craig and Jack Mangan.
Spencer Ford, Atlanta’s director of player personnel, is a former Towson great.
Woodall is expected to make his MLL debut in the Blaze’s season opener June 2 against the defending champion Denver Outlaws. Atlanta finished a franchise-best 7-7 in 2018.
