USA Lacrosse Names Women's National Team Development Program Coaches
The USA Lacrosse Women’s National Team Development Program (NTDP) coaches have been named for the 2024 cycle.
Built as a pipeline for the U.S. Women’s National Team, the development program launched in 2019 and each year works with hundreds of the top high school players from around the country through three phases – regional tryouts, a national combine and ultimately USA Select Teams (U16 and U18) competing against international competition.
Of the 42 players currently on the 2024 U.S. Women’s U20 training team, 34 of them participated in the National Team Development Program.
Serving as co-head coaches for the USA Select U18 team will be Mount St. Mary’s Head Coach Lauren Skellchock and University of Denver Associate Head Coach Brice Queener.
This is Skellchock’s third straight year working with the NTDP program and the Johns Hopkins alum was a multi-year player with the U.S. national team. She’s been the head coach at The Mount since 2015 and led the team to Northeast Conference championships and NCAA tournament berths in 2021 and 2022.
Queener, an assistant coach for the U.S. women’s sixes team that won the Super Sixes event last fall in Canada, is in his first year with the NTDP. He played collegiately at Georgetown and professionally in Major League Lacrosse. Before joining the staff at Denver, he served stints as the head women’s lacrosse coach at Rhodes College and Southwestern University.
The assistant coaches for the U18 team are Saint Joseph’s Assistant Coach Katie Detwiler and Garrison Forest School (Md.) Athletic Director Jessy Morgan.
Detwiler has been involved with the national team program since 2018, competing on the training teams for the 2019 U19 and 2022 senior teams. A three-time All-American at Loyola, Detwiler also competes professionally with Athletes Unlimited. She’s in her first season at Saint Joseph’s.
Morgan, a past U.S. national team member, previously served as the head coach at both George Mason and Howard. As a player, she was a captain at Virginia and helped the Cavaliers win the 2004 NCAA championship. She also spent four years as an assistant coach at her alma mater. In her six seasons at George Mason, the Patriots went 59-36 and her 62.1 winning percentage is the best in school history.
Serving as co-head coaches for the USA Select U16 team will be American University Head Coach Lindsay Teeters and UAlbany Head Coach Katie Rowan Thomson.
Teeters is in her fourth year as the head coach at American and led the school to the Patriot League tournament in 2022, the school’s first appearance in the tournament in nearly a decade. Teeters, a two-time All-American at Boston University and past U.S. national team player, was also an assistant coach at James Madison, George Washington and Virginia Tech in addition to coaching stints at the high school and club levels.
Thomson is in her sixth year as the head coach at UAlbany and led the Great Danes to the America East championship and the NCAA second round last season. She previously led Wagner to two NCAA berths. One of the most decorated players in the sport’s history. Thomson scored 396 points in her career at Syracuse and then won two gold medals with the U.S. national team. Her 69 career points in World Cup play is the second-highest in U.S. history and she was an All-World selection in 2013.
The assistant coaches for the U16 team are professional lacrosse player Kylie Ohlmiller and San Diego State Associate Head Coach Brandi Padilla.
Ohlmiller holds the NCAA’s career scoring record with 498 points during her career at Stony Brook. Ohlmiller has played in the U.S. national team program since 2016. She was a gold medalist for the 2022 U.S. women’s national team and is on the current U.S. training team for the 2024 World Lacrosse Box championships. She was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 Women’s Professional Lacrosse League draft and has played with Athletes Unlimited since 2021.
Padilla has coached at San Diego State since 2012, helping the Aztecs to double-digit victories from 2017 through 2019 and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships in 2018 and 2019. A California native, Padilla played four seasons at the University of Maryland, earning All-America honors in 2009 and helping the Terps to the 2010 national championship.
Serving as goalie coach for both USA Select teams is McDonogh School (Md.) Head Coach Megan Huether Nicotra. This is her third year coaching with the development program and she spent a decade as a national team player, winning gold medals with the U.S. senior team in 2009 and 2013. An four-year starting goalie at Duke, she previously coached at the collegiate level as an assistant coach at Navy and William & Mary.
The USA Lacrosse National Team Development Program is sponsored by Cascade Maverik, STX, New Balance, Enovis, MedStar Health, NCSA, Gatorade, Hotel Planner and First Scout.
