SPARKS, Md. — US Lacrosse today announced Navy women’s lacrosse coach and National Hall of Famer Cindy Timchal as a speaker at the 2018 US Lacrosse Convention (LaxCon), set for Jan. 19-21 at the Baltimore Convention Center.

Timchal is in her 11th year as the Midshipmen’s only coach, having taken the program to historic heights in 2017. Navy won its fifth Patriot League championship and advanced to the NCAA semifinals, becoming the first service academy team to do so in a women’s sport.

Registration for LaxCon starts at $90.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to speak at the US Lacrosse Convention,” Timchal said. “Quality coaching is very important in the development of young people, and I’m looking forward to spending some time with the next generation of lacrosse coaches.”

A 2012 inductee into the National Hall of Fame, Timchal remains the NCAA’s leader in career wins (491) at the Division I level. Prior to Navy, she coached Maryland to eight national championships from 1991 through 2006. Timchal led Northwestern to five postseason bids from 1982 through 1990. Six times a conference has named her its coach of the year.

The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association has named Timchal to its inaugural hall of fame class, to be formally enshrined Nov. 16 in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Three former players coached teams to the 2017 NCAA final four alongside Navy: Missy Doherty at semifinalist Penn State, Cathy Reese at champion Maryland, and Acacia Walker at runner-up Boston College.

“In many ways, Cindy Timchal is women’s lacrosse coaching,” said Kim Rogers, director of events at US Lacrosse. “It’s an honor to have her join the LaxCon speaker lineup.”

LaxCon represents lacrosse’s largest educational event and trade show, drawing upwards of 7,000 each year. The convention is open to the public, and members of US Lacrosse can save up $40 or more on registration. Special hotel rates are available for all attendees.
