Notre Dame had high expectations for Brian Willetts entering the 2019 season after he finished last season as its fifth-leading goal scorer (14). He got off to a strong start, scoring two goals in each of the Irish’s first two games.
But he took another step forward at Loftus Sports Center on Sunday in a nationally televised thriller against Maryland. Notre Dame led for much of the day, thanks to three goals and two assists from Willetts.
And when the Terps made a furious comeback in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 13-13, Willetts was there for his team again. With 2:46 left in the extra period, Willetts came from X and dove for the eventual game-winner in a tightly contested game.

For that goal – and his effort as a whole – Willetts is our Warrior/US Lacrosse Division I Men’s Player of the Week.
