In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, Cannons LC midfielder Paul Rabil became the first lacrosse player to appear as a guest on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”

Promoting the Premier Lacrosse League after a successful second week of action in Atlanta, Rabil spilled a few details on the league’s origins — like how he and his brother, CEO Mike Rabil, used to share hotel beds while pitching the league to investors — and where he thinks the league is headed in the future.

While the touring model the league was founded upon gave the Rabils an opportunity to grow the game to a more expansive base, Rabil told Meyers that he thinks a more traditional league format could be in the PLL’s future.

“We knew that with that density of fans that if we took the game around the country and grew it that way, we’d have a better chance,” Rabil said.

“I do think, in the future, we’ll be city-based,” he added later.

In its current format, the PLL takes each of its eight clubs to one site each weekend for a Friday-Sunday slate that features five or six games, depending on the weekend. Some teams play twice in that three-day period.

The PLL is off this weekend before returning to Homewood Field in Baltimore, Md., for its next week of action.
