Grant Ament and Bryan Costabile went back-to-back at the top of the 2020 Collegiate Draft on May 13, with Ament going No. 1 to Archers LC and Costabile to Atlas LC at No. 2. Both players were stars in college — Ament at Penn State and Costabile at Notre Dame — and chose a professional lacrosse future over another season at their respective schools.

Ament and Costabile had to wait 75 days to meet in their debut season, but it was well worth it. The two rookies combined for six goals and two assists to lead their teams in a thrilling matchup late on Monday night at Zions Bank Stadium.

Ament’s Archers LC team, though, got the best of Costabile’s Atlas LC, using a balanced attack to pick up the 11-10 victory — its first of the Championship Series. Ament finished with four points (three goals, one assist) and Tom Schreiber chipped in two goals and an assist to lead the way for Archers LC.

"He played exactly the way we wanted," Will Manny said of Ament. "Aggressive and take advantage of what the defense gave us. It was great to see him get his shots off and have a great first outing."

The back-and-forth affair started in the first quarter, where Costabile got his first goal and helped Atlas jump out to a 4-1 lead early. Then, Ament took over with a first-half hat trick that helped Archers score seven of nine goals to take an 8-6 lead into halftime.

Tom Schreiber, who dislocated his shoulder in Archers' playoff game against Redwoods due to injury, showed he’s 100 percent with two first-half goals.

Atlas came out of the break strong, with Costabile adding a coast-to-coast goal and Jack Concannon making multiple acrobatic saves to help tie the game at 8-8. Concannon finished with 16 saves.

Marcus Holman and Josh Currier add their first goals before the scoring stalled late in the fourth quarter. Rob Pannell scored on a dive with less than 20 seconds remaining to pull Atlas LC within 11-10. It had one final chance to go the length of the field to tie the game, but Curtis Corley blocked Paul Rabil’s shot at the buzzer to preserve the victory.
