NEW YORK, N.Y. — With double-digit increases across all key metrics, Season Three of Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse shattered records and helped fuel the increasing popularity of the sport in the United States.
The only professional women’s lacrosse league in the world, Athletes Unlimited wrapped up its championship season earlier this week with goalkeeper Taylor Moreno becoming the first player in any Athletes Unlimited sport to claim consecutive titles.
Average viewership for the live games on ESPN2 and ESPNU marked a +25% increase over comparable coverage in 2022 on the same networks, while merchandise sales were up +63%, attendance for the games at USA Lacrosse Headquarters grew by +41% and social media engagement increased +22% over the previous season.
Athletes Unlimited previously announced that it will continue with a fourth season of lacrosse in 2024. Details regarding timing and location will be announced at a later date.
“These fantastic results are further validation of what led us to expand into lacrosse in the first place — there’s a growing market for professional women’s lacrosse and incredible athletes who deserve an opportunity to shine,” said Jon Patricof, CEO and co-founder of Athletes Unlimited. “We are grateful for the support of our amazing partners at ESPN, Nike and USA Lacrosse, the incredible athletes and most of all the fans who showed up, tuned in and supported these athletes more and more every day.”
