Tom Schreiber Becomes First 3-Time MVP in Pro Field Lacrosse
It took five seasons for Archers midfielder Tom Schreiber to add a record-setting third professional field lacrosse MVP award to his trophy case, a half-decade in which Schreiber was still at the top of his game even as others ascended into the MVP discussion.
One of the top passing midfielders in the sport’s history beat out three other qualified candidates for the Premier Lacrosse League’s Jim Brown MVP Award on Saturday in Foxborough, Mass., two days before Schreiber’s Archers enjoyed a bye week during the PLL quarterfinals.
Trevor Baptiste (Atlas), Marcus Holman (Cannons), Asher Nolting (Cannons) and Blaze Riorden (Chaos) were the other finalists.
Schreiber’s last MVP came in 2017 with Major League Lacrosse’s Ohio Machine. It was the second year in a row he earned MVP honors with the Machine. In the time between MVP awards, Schreiber remained one of the top pros in the sport and added two gold medals with the U.S. men’s national team to his collection of lacrosse hardware.
Speaking of hardware: in his 10th season as a pro, Schreiber also took home Gait Brothers Midfielder of the Year and the Brendan Looney Leadership Award. Schreiber ranked first among midfielders with 37 points, which tied Chris Gray for fourth on the PLL leaderboard.
Schreiber, ever the professional, deflected praise during his acceptance speech.
“In a lot of ways, it’s a team award,” he said at the PLL’s awards ceremony. “I think it helps we finished in first place. I’m kind of an assists guy, so you need two to do that, for the most part.”
