ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Knighthawks defeated the Saskatchewan Rush 13-8 Saturday to extend their postseason home winning streak to 16 games going back 12 years and force a third and deciding game in the NLL’s championship series.

Josh Currier scored four goals, Cody Jamieson and Graeme Hossack two each and Austin Shanks, Cory Vitarelli, Kyle Jackson, Eric Fannell and Brad Gillies one each for the Knighthawks, while Jeff Shattler got three, Ryan Keenan two and Robert Church, Ben McIntosh and Dan Dawson one each for the Rush.

The new NLL Cup will be presented next Saturday night in Saskatoon’s SaskTel Centre.

Saskatchewan jumped ahead 2-0 but Rochester scored eight of the next 10 goals to lead 8-4 at halftime.

Jake Withers was winning most of the faceoffs for the Knighthawks and the ‘Hawks were darting through traffic to score from the edge of the crease more aggressively than they had in their 16-9 Game 1 loss.

The Rush started the second half strongly and Shattler scored but the Rush rally petered out when Jamieson scored, Vinc stopped an Adrian Sorichetti breakaway shot, and Hossack bounced a ball past Kirk on a breakaway to make it 10-5. There was a standing ovation for Vinc when play stopped for a commercial break.

Currier took an overhand shot as he ran across the middle of the Rush zone and when the ball sailed past Kirk at 5:01 of the fourth quarter for his fourth goal of the night, a Game 3 was inevitable.

Rochester worked for everything it got and finished with an 84-72 edge in loose ball scoops. Saskatchewan had an 80-55 superiority in Game 1. Withers was 16-for-24 on faceoffs.

Saskatchewan finished with a 54-52 edge in shots on goal.

NOTES: A halftime coin toss between representatives of San Diego and Philadelphia expansion teams was won by San Diego. With a choice between having first pick in the July 16 expansion draft or in September’s entry draft, the Seals GM-coach Pat Merrill opted to go first in the entry draft . . . Rochester hasn’t lost a home playoff game since April 22, 2006. This win improved its home record to 4-0 in finals play . . . Saskatchewan took four of the five penalties assessed in the first three quarters but nobody could score a power-play goal before Keenan got one in the fourth . . . Rochester captain Sid Smith was again a lineup deletion with an undisclosed injury . . . Dawson, who earned championship rings with Rochester in 2013 and 2014, got into his first playoff game with the Rush. He scored with one second remaining. Curtis Knight sat.
