Two weeks into the new season, exactly half of the Nike/US Lacrosse Division II Women’s Top 20 has now seen action. Among those that have played games, Saint Leo and Indianapolis own two of the best wins of the young season.
Following an opening loss to No. 8 Rollins, Saint Leo rebounded with a pair of strong road wins, including a 16-11 victory Sunday at No. 10 Limestone. The Lions jumped five spots in this week’s rankings with that win, which could be significant when postseason positioning time arrives in the South Region.
Also moving up five spots this week is Indianapolis, which recorded a 15-14 season-opening overtime win over No. 9 Florida Southern on neutral turf. The slate won’t get any easier for Florida Southern this week with home games against No. 1 Adelphi and No. 7 Lindenwood.
Five more ranked teams launch their 2020 campaigns this week, including No. 5 Regis, No. 10 East Stroudsburg, and No. 11 Mercyhurst.

St. Leo (+5)
The Lions notched two strong South Region road wins, upending Lenoir-Rhyne, 16-15, and following two days later with their 16-11 win at then No. 10 Limestone. The win over Limestone was the first for Saint Leo in seven meetings against the Saints. Janee DeLuca and Meghan Bomleny led the way with four goals each against at Limestone.
Indianapolis (+5)
UIndy jumps into the top 10 following its upset win over the Mocs. After seeing its three-goal halftime cushion disappear, UIndy needed a goal by Emily Meyer with one second left in regulation to force overtime. Peyton Romig’s unassisted goal, her fourth of the game, was the overtime winner.

Florida Southern (-5)
The Mocs were one second away from an impressive come-from-behind win over a ranked opponent. Trailing 7-4 against UIndy at halftime, Southern rallied with a 7-1 run in the second half to take control, building a three-goal lead. But Indy’s 6-1 run to end the game, including the game-tying marker with one tick remaining in regulation, handed FSC its first loss of the year.
Limestone (-5)
Julia Foster tallied a game-high six goals on eight shots, but it wasn’t quite enough to carry the Saints in a 16-11 loss to Saint Leo. The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak for Limestone, dating back to April of last season.
