The weather wreaked havoc with Saturday’s schedule, with games being moved up to Friday, back to Sunday or postponed for a later date.

The net result was just 15 games being played on a Saturday in the heart of the season, only two of which involved teams in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Division I Women’s Top 20. The marquee game of the day, No. 5 Syracuse at No. 15 Virginia, was not immune to the weather either – being moved to a turf field that eliminated the stream on the ACC Digital Network.

Here’s a look at what did happen Saturday.

BATTLE-TESTED SYRACUSE ROLLS PAST UVA

After powering through a string of cliffhangers, No. 5 Syracuse left little doubt in downing ACC rival and No. 15 Virginia, 17-11, in Charlottesville. The Orange improved to 6-1 overall and stayed perfect in the league at 3-0.

Syracuse hit the Shenandoah Valley following a string of four straight testers against top-flight competition — beating Stony Brook 12-11 and Notre Dame 17-16, falling in overtime to Northwestern 16-15 and then rallying past Duke 18-16 after digging a seven-goal hole last weekend.

There was no hole to climb out of this time. Virginia struck first, but the Orange needed no late game heroics. Back-to-back goals by Sam Swart started a 3-0 run to close the first quarter, breaking a 2-2 tie and Syracuse never trailed again.

Meaghan Tyrrell led the Orange with five goals and added an assist. Megan Carney and Emma Tyrrell also added hat tricks. Rachel Clark led Virginia with four goals.

ARMY WINS SIXTH STRAIGHT GAME

The Michelle Tumolo era at Army opened with two straight losses, but the Black Knights have quickly regrouped. Army blanked Boston University in the second quarter and beat the Terriers 13-7.

Army keeper Lacey Bartholomay made eight saves to earn the victory and Kathleen Sullivan had a had in over half of the Black Knights’ goals, finishing the game with seven points on five goals and two assits.

LASDA POWERS OHIO STATE PAST MOUNT

Ohio State leading scorer Jamie Lasda stayed hot, scoring a career-high six goals in the Buckeyes 16-9 win over Mount St. Mary’s.

Lasda, a sophomore, had set her previous career-high of five goals in the Buckeyes last game, an 18-10 win over Duquesne on Thursday. She needed less than a half to reach that total on Saturday, and then added her sixth in the second half. Lasda, who scored just twice as a freshman last year, has 22 goals in eight games for the 5-3 Buckeyes.

Sophie Baez added a hat trick for Ohio State while Zoe Hurlburg led the Mount with four goals. Mount goalie Madison Bradley made 15 saves.

  • Princeton scored 27 goals on nearly 50-percent shooting, scorching San Diego State 27-18 on the West Coast. The Aztecs were neck and neck with the 10th-ranked Tigers before the visitors went on a seven-goal binge in the third quarter. Deanna Balsama scored a game-high eight goals with two assists in the loss.
