Outside of the top five teams, there was an abundance of movement in the most recent Nike/USA Lacrosse High School Boys’ National Top 25. It’s a light week ahead, which is good after the dust settles from this week’s shakeup. St. Anthony’s (N.Y.) holds the top spot still with St. John’s College (Md.), Mount Sinai (N.Y.) and Brunswick (Conn.) all unbeaten and holding strong in front of one-loss Boys’ Latin (Md.).

The defeat of Chaminade (N.Y.) by Darien (Conn.) caused them to basically flip spots, but just behind them, Gonzaga (D.C.) suffered two big losses to fall down the rankings, but not out of the Top 25 because they still own some impressive wins overall (Culver, McDonogh, Paul VI and Loyola-Blakefield). Manhasset (N.Y.) and Garden City (N.Y.) and New York teams Webster Thomas and Shoreham-Wading River made moves up during unbeaten starts.

Calvert Hall (Md.) dropped after a loss to St. Paul’s (Md.). Malvern Prep (Pa.) leads three new teams in the Top 25 as its rebuild continues highlighted by a convincing win over Paul VI (Va.). Unbeaten Victor (N.Y.) also jumped into the rankings, and Summit (N.J.) rode its defense by previously ranked Seton Hall Prep (N.J.) and into the Top 25.

It took a few weeks, but we finally have some movement in the Northeast with Darien (Conn.) making an early statement by traveling to Long Island to beat Chaminade (N.Y.). The Flyers, who are the only team in the Northeast Top 10 with a loss, look to bounce back against rival St. Anthony’s (N.Y.) this week. Shoreham-Wading River (N.Y.) also climbs into the Top 10 after a 4-0 start.

In the Mid-Atlantic, there was a major change up top as Gonzaga (D.C.) dropped down to No. 9 after a pair of tough losses to Georgetown Prep (Md.) and Bullis (Md.)., a pair of teams that are building up after big graduation losses. St. Mary’s (Md.) remains unbeaten to slide up a spot and McDonogh (Md.), Georgetown and Archbishop Spalding (Md.) all leapfrog a Calvert Hall (Md.) team that lost to St. Paul’s (Md.). Malvern’s win over Paul VI (Va.) vaulted it into the Top 10, but Paul VI keeps a spot in the Top 10 by virtue of earlier wins over some teams just outside the rankings — St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (Md.) and Landon (Md.).

Dallas Jesuit (Texas) remains atop the South Region with some threats behind. St. Andrew’s heads into the postseason with an impressive record and Episcopal School of Dallas (Texas) overtook Westlake (Texas) and will host out of region Gonzaga (D.C.) in another chance to shine.

Lake Mary Prep (Fla.) moves into the Top 10 after knocking down St. Edward’s (Fla.), a top seed in its district for playoffs. St. Ignatius (Ohio) is rising still in the Midwest. They knocked off two Top 10 teams to climb further, though Culver (Ind.) and Loyola (Ill.) still claim the top two spots. MICDS (Mo.) is lined up to test its unbeaten mark this week against Upper Arlington (Ohio). York (Ill.) moved into the Top 10 after a 6-0 start.

In the West Region, Corner Canyon (Utah) gave Mater Dei (Calif.) its first loss of the season. Mater Dei remains at the top because it defeated Corona del Mar (Calif.), a team that Corner Canyon lost to. Mountain Vista (Colo.) is unbeaten and also in the hunt for the top spot. Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.) played its way back into the Top 10 after some early season struggles.

The Cadets remained perfect with convincing wins this week. In-conference, they stopped The Heights (Md.) 17-3, then they traveled out of state to knock off Episcopal (Pa.) 17-5. St. John’s plays Bishop Ireton (Va.) on April 12 then gears up for a showdown with St. Anthony’s (N.Y.) the following week. Previous: 1

2. Boys’ Latin (Md.), 7-1

The Cardinals dominated in a 16-3 win over Gilman (Md.) on April 5. It’s their seventh straight win since an opening game loss to St. John’s (D.C.). They play just one game this week against Kent Island (Md.) on April 11. Previous: 2

3. St. Mary’s (Md.) 9-0

The Saints handled Mount St. Joseph (Md.) 7-5 on April 8. They have outscored teams 139-47 thus far. They take on Broadneck (Md.) and Severna Park (Md.) this week in a bid to maintain their unbeaten start. Previous: 4

4. McDonogh (Md.), 6-3

The Eagles picked up a narrow 8-7 comeback win over Loyola-Blakefield (Md.) after overtaking Severn (Md.) 11-3 earlier in the week. McDonogh trailed Loyola 3-1 before its defense locked down during a six-goal run for the Eagles. McCabe Millon, Luke Miller and Ben Firlie all scored two goals apiece and Millon also had an assist. 5. Georgetown Prep (Md.), 6-3

The Hoyas rolled over Gonzaga (D.C.) 16-6 on April 4. They host Landon in a game postponed to April 11, then play at Episcopal (Va.) on April 14. Previous: 7

6. Archbishop Spalding (Md.), 7-2

The Cavaliers more than doubled John Carroll (Md.) 15-7 and held off Gilman (Md.) 10-8. Spalding will not play this week. Previous: 8

7. Calvert Hall (Md.), 8-3

The Cardinals were defeated by St. Paul’s (Md.) 13-9 after cruising by Mount St. Joseph (Md.) 14-3. Calvert slipped to 1-2 in the MIAA going into a week without any games. Previous: 5

8. Malvern Prep (Pa.), 6-2

The Friars are playing better as they rebuild from massive graduation losses. Malvern picked up three big out-of-state wins over perennially strong programs. They knocked off Bullis (Md.) 9-6, then followed up with a 14-7 win over Paul VI (Va.) and a 15-9 win over Delbarton (N.J.). Malvern faces a key in-state game against Haverford (Pa.) on April 12. 9. Gonzaga (D.C.), 9-3

The Purple Eagles had a tough week. Georgetown Prep (Md.) handed them a 16-6 loss on April 4, then the after bouncing back with a 20-6 win over Good Counsel (Md.) the next day, Gonzaga suffered a 13-7 loss to Bullis (Md.). They will play three straight days in Texas over spring break – at Dallas Jesuit, at Episcopal of Dallas, and at Keller. Previous: 3

Gunnar Schwarz saved the Scots last week with 17 stops in a 5-4 win over Ponte Vedra (Fla.) to close out the regular season. Five different Scots scored in the regular season finale. St. Andrew’s earned the top seed in its division and will face the winner of Cardinal Gibbons (Fla.) versus Calvary Christian Academy (Fla.) on April 12. Previous: 3

3. Episcopal School of Dallas (Texas), 15-2

The Eagles had an impressive week, highlighted by a 16-10 win over Westlake (Texas). ESD’s win was sandwiched by an 11-2 victory over Coppell (Texas) and a 17-8 win over Vandegrift (Texas). ESD has one of its toughest challenges of the year coming up with a date against Mid-Atlantic power Gonzaga (D.C.). Previous: 5

4. Westlake (Texas), 7-3

The Chapparals dropped a 16-10 decision against Episcopal School of Dallas (Texas), making the first in-state loss of the year for Westlake. Westlake welcomes Skyline (Wash.) this week who is off to an 8-1 start this year. Previous: 2

The Longhorns had a bye week heading into an April 14 contest against South Forsyth (Ga.) 17-0. Previous: 6

6. St. Edward’s (Fla.), 12-3

The Pirates started the week off with an 18-8 win over Jensen Beach (Fla.) St. Edward’s finished the regular season with a 13-6 loss to Lake Mary (Fla.). 7. Holly Springs (N.C.), 12-2

The Golden Hawks had an impressive 3-0 week, outsourcing opposition 49-11. Holly Springs started the week with a 23-0 win over Cary (N.C.) followed by a 15-3 victory against Pinecrest (N.C.). Holly Springs ended the week with a tighter 11-8 win over Green Level (N.C.). Holly Springs had four-goal performances by Jake Bedell and Wade Watson versus Cary. 8. Cardinal Gibbons (N.C.), 12-2

The Crusaders punished their opponents by outsourcing competition 46-9, pitching back-to-back shutouts last week. Cardinal Gibbons defeated Sanderson (N.C.) 19-0 and Enloe (N.C.) 18-0 before closing out the week with a 16-9 win over Christ School (N.C.). Thirteen different Crusaders scored against Sanderson and 13 players notched tallies versus Enloe, including freshman Zach Kerner who notched hat tricks in both contests. Previous: 9

The Rams crack the region top 10 for the first time this year thanks to a decisive 13-6 win over St. Edward’s (Fla.) to close out the regular season. 1. Culver Academy (Ind.), 7-2

The Eagles rolled through the Buckeye State in fine form, toppling Archbishop Moeller (Ind.) 17-6 and Millford (Ind.) 21-4. In the former, three different Culver players tallied hat tricks as Gabriel Sorichetti had four goals and Andrew Macheca and Aidan McDonald had three apiece. Previous: 1

2. Loyola Academy (Ill.), 5-0

The Ramblers sailed through a challenging test just up Interstate 94 as they toppled host Lake Forest (Ill.), 11-5, and also picked up a 19-4 victory over St. Rita (Ill.). Next up is a huge clash against neighbor and rival New Trier (Ill.). Previous: 2

3. St. Ignatius (Ohio), 6-1

The Wildcats continue to climb with one impressive win after another, recently topping Dublin Jerome (Ohio) and Hartland (Mich.) on back-to-back days. Last week's Midwest Player of the Week, Drew Wynocker, tallied six goals against Hartland and another hat trick against Dublin Jerome while Nathan Yoldesy added a hat trick against the Eagles. Previous: 5

4. Upper Arlington (Ohio), 5-0

The Golden Bears picked up a pair of double-digit victories over Olentangy Orange (Ohio) and Worthington Kilbourne (Ohio). Upper Arlington thus carries massive momentum into a critical stretch that includes weekend tests against Hudson (Ohio) and MICDS (Mo.). Previous: 4

5. Brother Rice (Mich.) 3-1

The Warriors bounced back from a tough loss to St. Ignatius (Ohio) with a dominant performance against in-state foe Cranbrook (Mich.), winning 18-5. Previous: 6

6. Dublin Jerome (Ohio), 4-1

The Celtics lost their first game of the season this past weekend, falling 15-8 to red-hot St. Ignatius (Ohio), as a tie game midway through the third quarter got away. Dublin Jerome has no time to mourn, however, with Archbishop Moeller (Ohio) and Hartland (Mich.) on deck. Previous: 3

7. MICDS (Mo.), 7-0

The Rams have shown plenty in Show-Me State play, doubling up on Rockhurst Jesuit (Mo.) and DeSmet Jesuit (Mo.), with four MICDS players (PJ Behan, Landon Gelven, Mark Mintzlaff and Holt Tipton) recording multiple goals against DeSmet Jesuit. The Rams get a chance to see where they stack up against another top Midwest program April 16 when they take on Upper Arlington (Ohio). Previous: 7

8. Forest Hills Central (Mich.), 3-0

The Rangers haven't played since March 30 and make their return to the field April 12 against Grand Rapids Catholic Central (Mich.). FHC's most recent win over Detroit Country Day (Mich.) looks better and better with time, however, as DCD has won three straight since, scoring a combined 54 goals over that stretch. Previous: 8

9. Hartland (Mich.), 1-2

While the Eagles' record is unimpressive, their two losses were both highly competitive and to top Midwest teams in Mitten State giant Brother Rice (Mich.) and rising Buckeye State power St. Ignatius (Ohio). Bo Lockwood impressed in Hartland's recent 13-11 loss at St. Ignatius, tallying two goals and six assists. Previous: 10

10. York (Ill.), 6-0

The Dukes are off to a great start with no victory more impressive than their recent 10-2 triumph over New Trier (Ill.). York has been particularly stellar on defense, yielding just 15 goals over its first six games. Previous: NR

WEST TOP 10

1. Mater Dei (Calif.), 10-1

The Monarchs suffered their first loss of the season falling 10-9 to Corner Canyon (Utah) in a back-and-forth battle decided in the final seconds on April 5. Griffin Dwyer led with three goals, and Lucas de la Paz won 18 of 20 faceoffs, but Corner Canyon overcame the possession disadvantage to get the win. Mater Dei bounced back with a 21-1 win over Orange Lutheran (Calif.) on April 8 after a Trinity League game was cancelled April 6 because of a shortage of officials. Previous: 1

2. Corner Canyon (Utah), 7-1

The Chargers spoiled Mater Dei’s perfect record, beating the Monarchs 10-9 on April 5 to climb up the rankings but a double overtime loss to former No. 2 Corona del Mar (Calif.), a team Mater Dei beat April 2, cost them a chance to move to No. 1. Jon King led Corner Canyon with five goals and one assist in the win over Mater Dei. Mason Quick added four assists, five ground balls and two takeaways, and Ayden Santi made 16 saves in goal. Previous: 4

3. Mountain Vista (Colo.), 8-0

The Golden Eagles might have had a chance to move to the top of the rankings this week but haven’t played a strong enough schedule yet to make that case. Last week they added two more comfortable wins, outscoring Legend (Colo.) and Highlands Ranch (Colo.) 37-6. A game against Valor Christian (Colo.) on April 15 will be a better test. Previous: 3

4. Corona del Mar (Calif.), 10-2

The Sea Kings bounced back from their April 2 loss to Mater Dei to beat Edison (Calif.) 17-3 and Corner Canyon 12-11 in double overtime, but then dropped a 7-6 loss to a streaking Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.) squad, which won on a goal with two seconds left. Ty Caffarelli scored the winner against Corner Canyon, finishing with three goals, while Lucas Newton led with four goals and Logan Ip also added three goals. Previous: 2

5. Regis Jesuit (Colo.), 7-1

The Raiders have won six straight since their overtime loss to Corona del Mar (Calif.), including victories last week against Castle View (Colo.) and Thunder Ridge (Colo.). Logan White scored five goals and added two assists in a 12-6 win over Castle View on April 5, while Ben Wojewski had six ground balls and went 9-of-13 on faceoffs taken. Previous: 5

6. St. Margaret’s Episcopal (Calif.), 12-1

The Tartans added two more wins last week, beating San Ramon Valley (Calif.), 18-4, and Bellarmine Prep (Calif.) 15-1. Austin Hicks led with four goals against SRV. St. Margaret’s has won six straight since dropping its only loss in overtime against Mater Dei (Calif.). Previous: 6

7. Torrey Pines (Calif.), 5-4

The Falcons had the week off, a good time to reset after three straight losses against teams ranked regionally by USA Lacrosse Magazine. Their fourth loss was early in the season against Maryland power St. Paul’s. Torrey Pines only has one loss to a California opponent, an 8-5 defeat against Corona del Mar (Calif.). Previous: 7

8. Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.), 11-3

The Knights seem to have recovered from a stretch of three straight losses in mid-March, which included two against unranked opponents. The 7-6 win over Corona del Mar (Calif.) on April 9 marked their sixth straight win. Drew Tyson, a Swarthmore commit, sealed the victory with 17 saves and a 74% save percentage. He now has a 4.6 goals against average and 72% save rate in 13 games. Previous: NR

9. St. Ignatius Prep (Calif.), 11-2

The Wildcats topped Marin Catholic (Calif.) 17-5 on April 5 and followed with a 19-3 win over Archbishop Mitty (Calif.). Freshmen Stu Gates led the offense against Marin Catholic, finishing with four goals and one assist, while Matt Higgins added one goal and three assists. St. Ignatius was set to face Mercer Island (Wash.), which is 8-1 this season, on April 11. Previous: 8

10. Valor Christian (Colo.), 6-1

Gunnar Fellows scored five goals and added an assist to lead the Eagles’ offense in a 10-3 win over Denver East (Colo.). Baden Brown won nine of 10 faceoffs, and Colin Jordan had eight saves in goal. That was Valor Christian’s only game of the week. Previous: 9
