Taryn Ohlmiller was all over the box score in Sunday’s 20-8 win over Rutgers.

She followed her seven-point performance in the first round against Towson with four goals and eight assists, pacing Courtney Murphy for the most points in an NCAA tournament game in program history.

Ohlmiller also became just the third player in NCAA tournament history to net 12 points in a game. She was one off Katie Rowan’s record of 13, and her eight assists tied the former Syracuse great for a single-game high.

That wasn’t all. Ohlmiller now has 408 career points, passing Murphy and moving into second place in program history behind her older sister, Kylie Ohlmiller, who was in the broadcast booth calling the game for ESPN3. The elder Ohlmiller had 498 career points.

Despite the gaudy numbers, Taryn Ohlmiller wasn’t the only offensive star. Kaeli Huff scored six times, Ally Kennedy scored four times and Bridget Considine totaled five assists.

Stony Brook led 10-4 at halftime and opened up the lead to 15-4 when Considine fed Kennedy with 21:44 left in the game.

Scane Sets Northwestern Record as Wildcats Stay Unbeaten

Izzy Scane scored eight goals, giving her a Northwestern single-season record of 89, and added three assists as the Wildcats routed Denver 19-4 to move on to the NCAA quarterfinal round where they will meet Duke.

Denver’s Molly Little opened the scoring, but Northwestern answered with five straight goals and it the Pioneers never mounted a threat after that run. Little’s third goal of the game with just 19 seconds left in the first half made it a 9-4 Northwestern lead at the break, but that was the last time the Pioneers (16-2) would score.

Northwestern won 21 of 26 draws, led by Jill Girardi with 12. Madison Doucette made seven saves and Scane got plenty of help on the offensive end, including an eight-point day from Erin Coykendall (2g, 6a) and three goals from Lauren Gilbert. Amelia Cole made 15 saves for Denver.

The Wildcats are a perfect 14-0 this season.

No. 1 North Carolina Gets Pushed by James Madison

Top-seeded North Carolina was challenged for just the second time this season, but the Tar Heels used a four-goal run to create some breathing room before taking down James Madison 14-9.

Tayler Warehime scored twice during that game-changing 4-0 run that turned a 10-8 UNC lead with 15:15 left into a 14-8 advantage with 7:39 to play. Melissa Sconone tallied two of her three assists during the run.

JMU came out firing, taking a 4-2 lead after Isabella Peterson scored consecutive tallies. The Tar Heels responded with four straight — one goal apiece from Caitlyn Wurzburger, Jamie Ortega, Kerrigan Miller and Sconone in a player-up situation.

The Dukes never tied the score or took the lead from there, though they twice came within one goal.

Ortega worked through an occasional faceguard to score four goals. Katie Hoeg had two goals and four assists and moved into second place in NCAA history in career assists.

UNC next plays eighth-seeded Stony Brook in the quarterfinals.

Another Record for North

Charlotte North continues to do Charlotte North things.

The walking highlight reel scored eight goals, breaking Boston College’s single-game NCAA tournament record, in BC’s 21-11 win over Temple. Her success led to success for the rest of the attack, as each of the four starters had four or more points — Jenn Medjid (four goals, three assists), Cara Urbank (two goals, three assists) and Caitlynn Mossman (three goals, one assist).

Urbank scored Boston College’s first goal just 20 seconds into the game. In doing so, Urbank notched her 200th career point.

The offense continued at a torrid pace, scoring the first three goals and running out to a 14-4 lead with 47 seconds left in the first half.

BC held the advantage on shots (37-27), draws (20-12) and ground balls (14-13).

The fourth-seeded Eagles next play fifth-seeded Notre Dame in the quarterfinal round. Boston College won both regular-season matchups in mid-April and outscored the Irish 37-23.

Notre Dame Downs ACC Foe Virginia

One ACC foe is knocked off, now Notre Dame gets a shot at another.

Behind a career-high six points from Jackie Wolak (4g, 2a) and 10 saves from Bridget Meehan, Notre Dame beat Virginia 13-8 to set up a quarterfinal matchup against Boston College, which swept the Irish this season.

After Virginia’s Ashleyn McGovern scored back-to-back goals to tie the game 2-2 with 20:07 remaining in the first half, the Cavaliers went over 27 minutes before scoring again. Notre Dame (11-6) built an 8-2 lead during that time frame and the Cavaliers got no closer than three goals the rest of the way.

Maddie Howe had three goals, including a pair of goals during a four-goal Notre Dame run after Virginia cut the lead to 8-5 in the second half, and Madison Ahern also scored three times.

McGovern led Virginia (9-9) with four goals and Charlie Campbell made 10 saves.

Tyrrells Power Syracuse Past Loyola

Once again, Syracuse’s offense showed no signs of the loss of star attackers Megan Carney and Emily Hawryschuk to injury as the Orange lit up the scoreboard in a 20-8 victory over Loyola.

It was a season-high 20 goals allowed by the Loyola defense, which surrendered double-digit goals just five times in 15 games, two of those coming against Syracuse.

Meaghan Tyrrell set a Syracuse single game NCAA tournament record with seven goals, matching her career-high, and Emma Tyrrell added four goals. Each sister also added three assists as they combined for 17 points in the victory.

Syracuse (15-3) outshot Loyola just 31-29 in the contest, but the Greyhounds convereted just 1 of 12 free position attempts and made just two saves.

Saw Swart added a hat trick for Syracuse, which whill play Florida in the quarterfinals, and Asa Goldstock made seven saves. Jillian Wilson had three goals and an assist for Loyola (12-3) and Livy Rosenzweig had four assists.
