A 19-game Sunday women’s slate included another high-scoring Duke game, the return of Princeton and a major milestone in the Division II ranks. Let’s hop right into how it went down.

DUKE BREAKS THROUGH

Can anyone stop the Duke offense? High Point certainly showed it could slow it down, at least for three quarters. Then the No. 7 Blue Devils exploded, turning a late one-goal lead into a 22-13 win.

The Blue Devils rode a massive day from Catriona Barry, who had seven goals and four assists. Katie DeSimone was also productive in a four-goal, three-assist game. Duke has now outscored opponents 92-26 in its 4-0 start.

High Point (0-2) trailed 12-11 after Esprit Cha dodged and scored with 7:02 left in the third quarter, but that must have lit a fire under the Blue Devils. They scored the next 10 goals and finished by scoring 10 of the last 12 overall.

WELCOME BACK, PRINCETON

Playing in its first game in 751 days, No. 13 Princeton looked crisp against No. 10 Virginia in a 17-11 win.

Kyla Sears scored the first goal of the contest and needed just 21 seconds to do so. That started a strong first quarter for the Tigers, who led 4-2 after Maria Pansini’s player-up goal late in the period.

The lead double by the end of the first half, as Grace Tauckus and Kari Buonanno both scored inside three minutes for a 9-5 advantage. Tauckus, Sophie Whiteway and McKenzie Blake then scored three straight after an Annie Dyson goal for Virginia, giving Princeton a commanding 12-6 lead.

Sam Fish made 15 saves to ensure that Princeton maintained its advantage.

Princeton next plays Temple on Saturday, while Virginia — which has dropped two straight — faces top-ranked Boston College on Wednesday.

ROMIG MAKES HISTORY

In the Division II space, UIndy’s Peyton Romig made history as the unofficial NCAA Division II career draw control leader. The NCAA does not list career records for draws, but Romig’s 12 in a 21-2 win over Frostburg State gave her 700 — and counting.

Romig, the USA Lacrosse Magazine Division II Women’s Preseason Player of the Year, also scored a goal and picked up a ground ball.

NOTABLE

• No. 11 Michigan’s blistering start to 2022 continued with a 20-7 thumping of Cincinnati. An astounding 12 players scored for the Wolverines (4-0), led by a hat trick from Claire Galvin.

• No. 14 Jacksonville (2-1) bounced back from a one-goal loss to unranked USC by throttling Niagara 20-2. Fourteen Dolphins scored, and Jenny Kinsey led the team with six points (two goals, four assists). Lauren Craft had five points (two goals, three assists).

• No. 19 Drexel improved to 3-0 with a 16-4 win over Lafayette, led by six goals from graduate midfielder Karson Harris. The Dragons held clear advantages on ground balls (21-15) and draw controls (14-9) and led 11-1 at halftime.
