Sunday Wrap: Michigan Tops Colorado, Taylor Suplee's 20 Saves Lead Penn State

In what had all the makings of a defensive battle, No. 13 Michigan rode its offense to a big win.

The Wolverines, led by Maggie Kane’s four goals and Caitlin Muir’s three goals and three assists, rolled through No. 20 Colorado in Ann Arbor, 20-7. Molly Garrett, Kaitlyn Mead and Erin Garvery scored three goals each.

This one was all Michigan from the opening draw. The Wolverines scored the game’s first three goals and six of the first seven. After Charlie Rudy cut the deficit to 8-4 for Colorado (1-2), Michigan (3-1) used a 10-0 run between the first and second halves to take a commanding 18-4 lead.

Rudy (three goals) ended the streak with 16:24 remaining in the game.

In what was touted as a defense-first matchup in this week’s Gameday Guide, Michigan ripped 40 shots — 30 on goal. Julia Lisella made 10 saves but was peppered constantly.

DENVER COASTS AGAINST HARVARD

Eliza Radochonski scored five goals and chipped in an assist as No. 12 Denver easily handled Harvard, 15-6. Quintin Hoch-Bullen and Julia Gilbert both scored three goals.

Harvard (1-2) opened the game on a 3-0 run with goals from Maddie Barkate, Hannah Keating and Charlotte Clark, but Denver (4-0) recovered and took a 6-5 lead by halftime on Taylor DeRose’s tally.

The second half was all Pioneers. They scored nine straight to open the half and took a 15-5 lead. Keating scored with 1:11 remaining for the final margin.

SUPLEE’S 20 SAVES LEAD PENN STATE

Taylor Suplee’s 20 saves led the charge as Penn State topped Cornell at Panzer Stadium, 19-9. Maria Auth scored four goals, and Yasmain Hamood, Lauren Craft and Quinn Nicolai each scored three times for Penn State (4-0).

Cornell (2-1) actually outshot Penn State 37-36, but the Nittany Lions made the most of their chances and capitalized on save after save by Suplee.

NOTABLE

Madeline Seims gave Wagner a four-goal lead with 17:28 left, an insurance goal that proved necessary as Vermont scored the game’s final three tallies but fell just short. Wagner won, 11-10.
Freshman Kasey Choma scored six goals and Andie Aldave had four goals and one assist as No. 3 Notre Dame defeated Ohio State, 18-7.
Kelsey Huff and Sophia Donovan scored three goals each, Izzy McMahon had two goals and four assists and Emily Concialdi had two goals and two assists as No. 10 USC defeated San Diego State, 14-6.
