SPARKS, Md. — US Lacrosse today named Team USA and Duke men’s lacrosse coach John Danowski as a speaker for boys’ lacrosse coaches at the 2018 US Lacrosse Convention (LaxCon), set for Jan. 19-21 at the Baltimore Convention Center.

Danowski has led the Blue Devils to three NCAA championships and a stretch of eight consecutive final fours during his 11-year tenure. In 35 years as a collegiate head coach, he has amassed a career record of 383-191. US Lacrosse announced Dec. 15, 2015, Danowski’s appointment as coach of the U.S. men’s team, which he’ll lead in the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championship July 12-21, 2018, in Netanya, Israel.

“I love talking lacrosse with other coaches — the X’s and O’s, philosophies, player development, everything,” Danowski said. “No matter what level you coach, you embody all of that when you interact with your players. LaxCon is a great event for coaches to learn about all of the aspects of coaching, so you can then teach each player what he or she needs at a given time. I’m looking forward to it.”

In Danowski’s 11 years at the helm of the Blue Devils, he has compiled an impressive 164-51 record in leading Duke to seven ACC regular-season championships and four ACC tournament titles, an appearance in an NCAA semifinal each season from 2007-14, four berths in the final and national championships in 2010, 2013 and 2014. Danowski has mentored 64 All-Americans, 36 All-ACC choices, two Tewaaraton Trophy winners, a pair of USILA Attackman of the Year honorees, a USILA Defenseman of the Year, three USILA Midfielder of the Year award recipients and 21 USILA Scholar All-Americans.

Danowski, the 2007 Lacrosse Magazine Person of the Year, spent 21 campaigns (1986-2006) at Hofstra before coming to Duke. He compiled an overall record of 192-123 (.609) with eight conference championships, eight NCAA tournament bids and 17 final national rankings among the top 20 teams in the nation. Prior Hofstra, Danowski spent three seasons as the head coach at Long Island University-C.W. Post, helping the Pioneers to a 27-16 (.628) ledger from 1983-85. He received his start in coaching in 1982 as an assistant coach at LIU-C.W. Post in 1982.

LaxCon represents lacrosse’s largest educational event and trade show, drawing upwards of 7,000 each year.
