Maryland's dominance on the draw helped the No. 3 Terps to continue their dominance over Syracuse with an 18-11 win at the Carrier Dome on Sunday.
Maryland, which has only lost once to Syracuse, a 10-9 setback in the 2012 regular season, won 22-of-30 draw controls to give its offense plenty of opportunities to inflict damage.
Kali Hartshorn led the Terps with seven draw controls, Louisville transfer Meghan Siverson had six, Megan Whittle had five and Lizzie Colson had four. Siverson, who had 55 goals and 91 draw controls at Louisville last year, leads the Terps with 35 draws this season.
Syracuse, coming off of a 17-15 victory over Florida, struck first on freshman Sam Swart's goal, but Maryland responded with three goals in a span of just 76 seconds and the Orange never led again.
Emily Hawryschuk's goal with 3:44 left in the first half pulled Syracuse to within 7-4, but Maryland scored four straight goals to pull away and a five-goal run in the second half gave the Terps their biggest lead of the game, 16-6 with 15:23 remaining.
Caroline Steele paced the Maryland offense with seven points on five goals and two assists. Taylor Hensh added four goals and Hartshorn and Whittle each had hat tricks.
Maryland has now faced three Top 10 opponents on the road, Florida, North Carolina and Syracuse, and come away with victories in two of the games.
Swart and Hawryschuk each had three goals for Syracuse (4-2).
Hokies Stay Unbeaten in ACC
Virginia Tech completed an impressive bounce-back week with a 9-6 victory over Notre Dame on Sunday to improve to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
After getting demolished 18-3 by Colorado last Sunday, Virginia Tech came back to beat Denver 11-5 on Wednesday and then rode the hot goaltending of Meagh Graham to beat the Irish for the first time in nine all-time meetings.
The Tech defense forced Notre Dame into 20 turnovers in the game and limited the Irish to just one goal over the first 45 minutes. Graham made nine saves to earn the victory.
With the Hokies leading 8-1 midway through the second half, Notre Dame rallied with four straight goals, pulling to within 8-5 on freshman Andie Aldave's goal with 9:02 remaining.
Virginia Tech's Marissa Davey ended the momentum on a goal with 7:06 to play and the Irish scored just once more and Tech was able to control possession to run out the clock in the closing minutes.
Freshman Paige Petty and senior Emma Harden each had two goals for the Hokies. Aldave led Notre Dame with a game-high three goals and Savannah Buchannan had a goal and two assists. Samantha Giacolone made nine saves.
Canisius Hands Yale First Loss of Season
A late Yale rally went for naught as Canisius freshman Marrisa Malvaso scored the game-winning goal in the third overtime to give the Golden Griffins a 10-9 victory, handing No. 16 Yale (4-1) its first loss of the season.
Canisius (2-4) led 9-5 with under seven minutes to play before Yale got untracked. The Bulldogs scored four goals in less than four minutes, tying the game 9-9 on Barrett Carlson's goal with 2:29 left in regulation.
Both goalies came up big in the overtimes, combining for eight saves, including back-to-back stops by Yale's Sydney Marks to close the second overtime period.
Canisius' Jourdan Roemer won the draw to start the third overtime and then a minute later drove right and dished inside to Malvaso. The freshman calmly faked high, dropped her stick sidearm and shot low for the game winner.
Malvaso and Roemer each had three goals for Canisius and Rebecca VanLaeken made 12 saves to earn the victory.
Emily Granger led Yale with two goals and Marks made 16 saves, including five in overtime, for the Bulldogs.

Trailing 12-9 with under four minutes to play, UMass scored three straight goals to tie the game 12-12 on Holly Turner's goal with 1:47 left, only to see Ohio State regain the lead.
McKayla Conti scored on a free position shot with just 20 seconds left to put the Buckeyes up 13-12. Ohio State won the ensuing draw, but Burnett forced a turnover and then fed Kaitlyn Cerasi for the game-tying goal with just one second left.
The UMass defense forced another turnover in the overtime period and after a shot hit the post, Burnett scored the game-winner off a feed from Turner with just 17 seconds left.
