Joey Spallina, the No. 1 commit in the Class of 2022 by Inside Lacrosse, announced at a ceremony in front of Mount Sinai High School (N.Y.) that he has committed to Syracuse.
Spallina, a junior at Mount Sinai, is a physical, crafty attackman who thrives while backing down defenders and creating offense. After more than 30 offers, he had narrowed his list of finalists to Virginia, Loyola, North Carolina, Syracuse and Maryland.
"The past few weeks have been filled with excitement," Spallina said. "I was humbled being named the No. 1 2022 in the country, and I was humbled to be recruited by so many programs."
Playing up with the heralded Team 91 Long Island 2020 Crush with Brennan O’Neill (Duke) and Xavier Arline (Navy), Spallina proved he could hang with the older guys. A leader on the Team 91 Long Island 2022 Smash, he put himself on the map as the top recruit available in his class.
He already has amassed 215 points in high school, even without a spring season in 2020. He notched 84 points (45 goals) as an eighth grader and followed with 131 points as a freshman.
