BOSTON (April 28, 2017) – Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier outdoor professional lacrosse league, announced today that Twitter will live stream the “MLL Game of the Week” during the 2017 season. The streaming schedule consists of 15 regular season games and two postseason games, beginning with the New York Lizards hosting the Denver Outlaws at 6:00 p.m. ET this Saturday.
The live stream will be available globally for free to logged-in and logged-out users on Twitter and connected devices. Fans can access the live stream via mll.twitter.com or on @MLL_Lacrosse.
“Having MLL games streamed live on Twitter is a major step towards improving the accessibility of our great game,” MLL Commissioner David Gross said. “We have made a concerted effort in recent years to cater to an audience that relies more and more on digital streaming, and this partnership is the next phase of that effort. We are thrilled to be working with Twitter this season.”
The partnership with Twitter includes Lax Sports Network (LSN) providing highlights of each streamed game for distribution across Twitter’s Amplify program. LSN will also produce the pregame and postgame show for every game streamed on Twitter.
“The popularity of lacrosse continues to grow and there is an appetite for more live video from die-hard fans on Twitter,” said Anthony Noto, COO at Twitter. “Collaborating with MLL brings more exciting, fast-paced games to lacrosse fans right on Twitter where the conversation is already happening.”
While MLL has partnered with national and regional cable partners in past seasons, the 2017 season will feature the most robust over-the-top (OTT) streaming options in league history. Every regular season game not featured on Twitter is available to stream on LSN.
The first “MLL Game of the Week” features two teams that have accounted for the last three Steinfeld Trophy winners. The Outlaws are coming off a Week 1 win in Charlotte thanks to four goals from Warrior Offensive Player of the Week Mike Bocklet. The Lizards also won their first game of the year, beating the Bayhawks in overtime, 15-14. Lizards attackman Rob Pannell had two goals and three assists in Week 1, picking up where he left off after setting the single-season points record in 2016.
Every MLL team will play at least one game this season on Twitter. The “MLL Game of the Week” will be on a Saturday night every week, with a special Tuesday night game when Denver hosts Atlanta in the annual July 4 game. A full schedule can be found below:
