UMass midfielder Aidan Kaminska, a sophomore who started the first game of his career in the CAA tournament, died unexpectedly at his parents' home on Monday, according to Newsday. He was 19.
No cause of death has been revealed.
Kaminska, a product of Port Jefferson, N.Y., did not see time in 2021 at UMass, but he played in six games and scored nine goals in 2022. Kaminska scored three times on six shots in his first-ever start on May 5, an 18-10 CAA tournament loss to Towson.
Port Jefferson superintendent Jessica Schmettan sent a letter to school district parents and staff on Tuesday, per Newsday.
“The District was informed of the sudden passing of one of our alumni from the Class of 2020, Aidan Kaminska. Our thoughts and prayers are with the former student’s friends, family and loved ones during this difficult time . . . I offer my deepest and most sincere condolences to the family, staff and friends who suffered this great loss.”
