The injury bug continues to bite Syracuse.
The program announced Friday that midfielder Emma Tyrrell will miss the remainder of the season after a leg injury she sustained in practice. Sierra Cockerille has been inactive since a March 1 loss to Northwestern, and Emma Ward has missed the entire season with a torn ACL. Megan Carney was also injured in the second quarter of Syracuse's 14-12 loss to top-ranked North Carolina on Saturday, though it's unclear what her status is moving forward.
This comes after a season during which Syracuse lost both Carney and Emily Hawryschuk for the year but still made it to the NCAA championship game. Can Syracuse do it again with new head coach Kayla Treanor pulling the strings? If Treanor can put her players in the right places to succeed, then Syracuse might be able to weather the storm yet again.
The Orange weren’t penalized in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Division I Women’s Top 20 for the aforementioned loss to UNC, and there’s a very good chance they meet again in a few weeks’ time in the ACC tournament.

Stanford (+3)
Stanford essentially put its stamp on the Pac-12 Sunday, beating USC for the second time this season and taking sole possession for first place in the conference. The conference is chaotic, with Arizona State and Colorado joining Stanford and USC as contenders, but the Stanford offense is clicking right now with Ali Baiocco and Ashley Humphrey leading the charge.
USC still ranks higher than Stanford this week, though. Losses to Arizona State and Colorado are holding the Cardinal back as of now, but none of that matters come conference tournament time.
UConn (+2)
The Huskies lost their only game this week and still rose two spots. How? If you take stock in what could be perceived as an impressive loss, then a 14-13 overtime loss against No. 10 Denver certainly qualifies. The 13 goals were the most Denver allowed this season. But UConn mostly benefits this week from the inclusion of UMass at No. 18. Because the Huskies topped UMass on March 5, they remain one spot above the Minutewomen.

Michigan (-4)
The Wolverines are reeling. At one point, they were a top 10 team and a popular dark horse pick in the Big Ten. Now, Michigan is simply trying to figure things out. It lost to an unranked Ohio State team last Friday, and with four straight losses, a pivotal game against Penn State on April 16 looms. The Wolverines remain in the Top 20 this week, but they are certainly at a breaking point.
Richmond (-3)
The Spiders never held a lead against UMass on Sunday, though they never fell completely out of it, either. The Richmond offense is better than it played Sunday (UMass forced the Spiders into 15 turnovers), and Arden Tierney is a weapon on the draw.

UMass (No. 18)
Maddy Moloney, Kelly Marra and Kendra Harbinger combined for 10 goals in UMass’ biggest win of 2022, a victory that vaulted the Minutewomen to the top of the Atlantic 10 standings. UMass has only lost games to Boston College and UConn this spring, and with decent wins over Vermont and Vanderbilt, its resume can stack up against others in this area of the Top 20.

The Buffaloes fall out of the Top 20 during a week of inactivity. They have a potential season-defining weekend ahead, as they host USC on Friday and Arizona State on Sunday.
