For the first time this season, a team other than defending national champion Gettysburg resides atop the Nike/US Lacrosse Division III Women’s Top 20.
Tufts last week won three NESCAC games in convincing fashion — including a 17-10 defeat of then-No. 4 Wesleyan Saturday — and then-No. 9 Franklin & Marshall knocked the visiting Bullets from the ranks of the unbeaten in a Centennial Conference game, helping the 11-0 Jumbos become the nation’s new No. 1. Middlebury extended its win streak to nine games to move up to No. 2.
Tufts outscored the Cardinals in the second half, 12-3, pulling away with the game’s final seven goals to highlight its recent slate. The Jumbos become the hunted Saturday, when No. 9 Amherst visits.
Gettysburg and F&M were tied at 6 with seven minutes left in their Wednesday matchup, but the Diplomats scored the last three goals of the game to record the 9-6 victory. In each of the last three seasons, the winner of the regular-season meeting between these two has fallen in the league tournament rematch.
The No. 7 Cardinals travel to No. 12 Trinity tomorrow in an early-week collision as conference play continues for the top 20 and beyond.
