SPARKS, Md. — US Lacrosse today announced Salisbury men’s lacrosse coach and National Lacrosse Hall of Famer Jim Berkman as a speaker for boys’ lacrosse coaches at the 2018 US Lacrosse Convention (LaxCon), set for Jan. 19-21 at the Baltimore Convention Center.
Berkman, the all-time winningest coach in NCAA men’s lacrosse history across all divisions, is in his 30th year at Salisbury after leading the Sea Gulls to their 12th national championship in May. He became the first NCAA lacrosse coach in either gender to eclipse the 500-win mark when Salisbury beat Wesley during the 2017 regular season, and his career record of 511-57 (.899) includes one season at SUNY Potsdam.
Registration for LaxCon starts at $90.
“The future of lacrosse remains bright, but we need to make sure there are quality coaches out there teaching young people, on and off the field,” Berkman said. “The US Lacrosse Convention is a great event for coaches to learn and improve, and I’m honored to be selected as a speaker. I’m looking forward to it.”
Berkman guided the Sea Gulls to a 22-1 record last season, culminating in a 15-7 win over RIT in the NCAA Division III final. Along the way, Salisbury won its 20th Capital Athletic Conference championship and extended its streak of NCAA tournament appearances to 29 years. He has coached 214 USILA All-Americans, 48 national players of the year by position and 11 national players of the year overall.
Berkman was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2013. He most recently hosted a session at LaxCon in 2015.
“Jim Berkman’s passion for lacrosse is contagious, and his career accomplishments speak for themselves,” said Kim Rogers, director of events at US Lacrosse. “We’re excited to have him back at LaxCon.”
LaxCon represents lacrosse’s largest educational event and trade show, drawing upwards of 7,000 each year. The convention is open to the public. Early bird registration discounts for US Lacrosse members and non-members end Nov. 30. Special hotel rates are available for all attendees who book accommodations before Dec. 17.
