SPARKS, Md. — U.S. head coach John Danowski has named 27 players that will represent the United States men’s national team in the 2019 Fall Classic from Oct. 18-20 at US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md.
The roster includes six players — Trevor Baptiste, Greg Gurenlian, John Haus, Will Haus, Marcus Holman and Rob Pannell — that were on the final 23-man roster that won gold at the World Lacrosse championship in the summer of 2018 in Netanya, Israel. The majority of the remaining players competed on the training team leading up to the world championship.
The U.S. men’s team will open its competition on Friday, Oct. 18 against its main rival, Canada, in the first meeting between the two countries in field lacrosse since the U.S. pulled off a thrilling 9-8 last-second victory in the 2018 world championship game. The U.S. team also won the pool play game over Canada at the world championship by a single goal.
“We were very fortunate to win both games,” Danowski said. “We certainly could have lost either time and that’s what happens when you get two great programs together. It’s just fun.”
The U.S. team will also play reigning NCAA champion Virginia on Oct. 19 and will wrap up the weekend with an exhibition game against Canada on Oct. 20 using the trial rules developed by World Lacrosse.
Advance tickets for the Fall Classic, which also features the U.S. women’s national team, Canada’s women’s national team and the University of Maryland women’s team are just $18 daily or $30 for a weekend pass that provides access to all six games at US Lacrosse on Friday and Saturday.
The U.S. men’s national team trains and plays using best-in-class products provided by Nike (apparel and footwear), Cascade (helmets), Warrior (equipment), SISU Guard (mouthguards), Pearl Lacrosse (balls) and DJO (sports braces).
In addition to these partners, Greenfields, Hudl, MedStar Sports Medicine and Sports Performance Tracking are official sponsors of the U.S. national team program. Team training is also aided by products from Motive Pure, NormaTec Recovery and Athletic Republic.
