SPARKS, Md. — It’s less than a year until the World Lacrosse Women’s World Championship and U.S. head coach Jenny Levy will use the upcoming Fall Classic to get another look at the players that will ultimately represent the U.S. in the world championship. The U.S. has won the last three world championships leading up to the 2022 event, which will be hosted by USA Lacrosse at Towson University.
In the Fall Classic, the U.S. women’s team will play Canada on Friday, Oct. 15 in a rematch of the two countries that competed in the 2013 and 2017 world title games. On Saturday, Oct. 16 the U.S. women will square off against 2021 NCAA champion Boston College. Both games will be held on Tierney Field at USA Lacrosse headquarters and tickets are now on sale.
The U.S. roster will largely be made up of players that have competed in training events this summer and includes eight members of the 2017 U.S. world championship team — Becca Block, Kristen Carr, Taylor Cummings, Megan Douty, Gussie Johns, Marie McCool, Alice Mercer and Kayla Treanor.
The two new additions to the training squad are defensive players Ella Simkins and Kayla Wood, both of whom are coming off outstanding summers in the Athletes Unlimited professional league. Additional big names include recent Tewaaraton winners Sam Apuzzo (2018) and Charlotte North (2021) and all-time NCAA points leader Kylie Ohilmiller.
The U.S. National Team trains and plays using best-in-class products from Nike (apparel and footwear), Game On Mouthguards, Gilman Gear (goals), Pearl Lacrosse (balls) and DJO (sports bracing) and best-in-class equipment from Gait, Maverik, STX and Cascade Lacrosse.
In addition to these partners, Hudl and MedStar Health are official sponsors of the U.S. national team program. Team training is also aided by products from Athletic Republic.
