The U.S. women’s national team upcoming three-day training camp at USA Lacrosse headquarters will be highlighted by a Blue-White scrimmage on Wednesday, June 30 at 6 p.m. The exhibition game is free of charge and open to the public.
Head coach Jenny Levy will welcome 36 of the nation’s top players back to the national team training center for the camp, which opens on Tuesday.
The camp features nine returning World Cup champions from the 2017 U.S. team, including all-world selections Taylor Cummings, Meg Douty, Kayla Treanor and Michelle Tumolo. Treanor and Tumolo, both former Syracuse stars, have been in the news recently as Treanor was named as Syracuse’s new head coach last week and Tumolo was named as Army’s new head coach earlier today.
The training camp will also provide the opportunity for some newer players to make their marks.
Nine players in this week’s camp will be playing with the U.S. senior team for the first time in a non-tryout setting: Attackers Lindsey McKone, Charlotte North, Jamie Ortega and Izzy Scane and midfielders Olivia Dirks, Ally Mastroianni, Rayna Sabella, Belle Smith and Sam Swart.
Scane and Smith have previous experience with the national team program, having helped the U.S. U19 team win gold in 2019. North was this year’s Tewaaraton Award winner after leading Boston College to its first national championship.
This is the first of three training opportunities remaining this calendar year. The U.S. women’s team will also compete in the Fall Classic at USA Lacrosse headquarters in October and then at the IWLCA President’s Cup in Dallas in November.
The U.S. team is building towards the World Lacrosse Women’s World Championship, which will be hosted by USA Lacrosse from June 29-July 9, 2022 at Towson University. It’s the first time the event has been held in the United States since 2005 and a record 30 nations scheduled to compete. The U.S. has won the last three world championships (2009, 2013 and 2017).
The U.S. women’s national team trains and plays using best-in-class products provided by Nike (apparel and footwear), Gait (equipment), STX (equipment), Maverik (equipment), Cascade (goalie helmets), Game On (mouth guards), Gilman Gear (goals), Pearl Lacrosse (balls) and DJO (sports braces).
In addition to these partners, Hudl and MedStar Sports Medicine are officials sponsors of the U.S. national team program. Team training is also aided by products from Athletic Republic and Hyperice.
