Caitlyn Wurzburger is turning into quite the cover subject.
Wurzburger, whose portrait appeared on the cover of US Lacrosse Magazine’s high school preview edition in March, returns to the fore in the September/October edition — this time mid-roar as she celebrates a goal during Team USA’s 13-3 win over Canada in the World Lacrosse Women’s U19 World Championship gold medal game Aug. 10 in Peterborough, Ontario. Photographer Tim Bates captured the image.
Wurzburger, a North Carolina commit out of American Heritage-Delray (Fla.), is joined by current Northwestern standout Izzy Scane in the image. The two attackers tied for the team lead with 21 goals apiece in the tournament, which saw the U.S. sweep its seven opponents by a combined score of 128-20. Both were named All-World.
Wurzburger shot 21-for-25 and added a team-high 19 assists.
“I get goosebumps even thinking about being on that field,” Wurzburger said during the tournament. “I love singing the national anthem. I sing it loud and proud. Wearing the jersey, seeing your family and friends and being with a special group of girls that you don’t even feel like you’re the best of the best. You’re just a group of girls playing the game of lacrosse for your country.”
