The USA Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage.

NORTHEAST

Aidan Mulholand, Manhasset (N.Y.)

The Woodstick Classic had been played every year since 1935 until the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the 2020 season, which included the anticipated annual showdown between Manhasset and Garden City. Mulholland made sure Manhasset picked up where it left off, playing a starring role in a 19-14 victory at Garden City on Saturday afternoon. The Michigan-bound midfielder is playing on the attack line while getting his lacrosse legs under him after a county-championship football season. The senior looked plenty lively to pace the Indians’ attack with a game-high five goals in the highest-scoring Woodstick Classic in history, as the Indians made it three straight wins and have a 75-62 advantage in the series.

MID-ATLANTIC

Ben Smith, Boys’ Latin (Md.)

The senior midfielder scored three goals and added an assist as Boys’ Latin rallied from an early deficit for an 8-7 win over Loyola Blakefield (Md.) in the MIAA-A Conference quarterfinals on Saturday. The Penn commit has been a steady contributor for the Lakers, who avenged a 12-10 loss to Loyola just six days earlier. Loyola led 5-0, 6-1 and 7-3 before Boys’ Latin was able to come back. Smith’s assist pulled the Lakers within 7-5, and then he scored twice to put his team in position to win it on Jacob Pacheco’s goal.

Hillis Burns, Louisville St. Xavier (Ky.)

Hillis Burns’ five-goal effort led Louisville St. Xavier to a state title on Saturday. He had a hat trick in the first quarter of the state championship. Burns is committed to Air Force.

MIDWEST

Crandall Quinn, Forest Hills Central (Mich.)

With 17 saves and five goals allowed, Rangers keeper Crandall Quinn put up some serious numbers to help his team snag a key 6-5 victory at Detroit Country Day (Mich.) on May 11. He then capped his terrific week with a four-save shutout against Northville (Mich.). That puts Quinn at a save rate of 65 percent for the season.

WEST

Joey Garcia, Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.)

The senior goalkeeper made 19 saves in a 9-8 win over then-No. 3 St. Margaret’s (Calif.) on May 11, a result that lifted the Knights back into the top 10. He also added nine saves in a 13-6 victory over Palos Verdes (Calif.) on Saturday. Garcia has allowed just 5.5 goals per game and has a 68.9 percent save rate this season.
