The USA Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage.

The South and West Regions have concluded play, so this week, we honor the top players from the other three regions.

NORTHEAST

Jack Cascadden, Garden City (N.Y.)

Jack Cascadden is a winner. He’s proven that on the football field, where he helped guide Garden City to a second straight undefeated season as a dynamic dual threat. He showcased those skills on the lacrosse field as well, and in the biggest game of the season, the Cornell commit simply willed the Trojans to the New York State Class B title.

In a tight defensive slugfest separated by one goal, Cascadden won 9 of 13 faceoffs and sparked a pivotal third-quarter run when he scored off an assist from Stevie Finnell to extend the Trojans lead to 3-1 with 9:49 left in the third. He then set up Jack Archer’s third goal of the game, cleanly won the ensuing faceoff and scored seven seconds later. It was all part of a four-goal run in 3:22 as Garden City took the game over.

“At halftime we said with such a low scoring game and few faceoffs that he must play offense — 24 minutes left in his high school career and he is the ultimate X-factor because he is a talented and skilled player, not just a FOGO,” Garden City coach Steve Finnell said. “He had two goals and one assist in the first five-and-a-half minutes of the third quarter to help us pull away.”

MID-ATLANTIC

Austin Cote, Mars Area (Pa.)

The senior midfielder helped to lead Mars to a 9-6 win over Marple Newtown (Pa.) for the 2A state championship. Cote had a hat trick as the Planets became the first team – boys or girls – from District 7 in Western Pennsylvania to win a state title since championships began in 2009. The Planets went 23-1 with their lone loss coming against Midwest Region No. 2 ranked Upper Arlington (Ohio). Mars became the first team from District 7 to even reach a state final last year before reaching the pinnacle of the state this season.

Cote scored four goals and had an assist in Mars’ 16-8 win over Penncrest (Pa.) in the semifinals. The defense, led by Jacksonville-recruit Quinn Fuller, came up big in the semifinals and finals by limiting both opponents in the second halves to allow Cote and the attack to build an advantage.

MIDWEST

Bo Lockwood, Hartland (Mich.)

The same stage. The same opponent. The Eagles were out for revenge in their state title game rematch with Brother Rice (Mich.), and star scorer Bo Lockwood ensured 2022 followed a different narrative with the game-winner in overtime. Lockwood proved he is much more than a scorer, however, in the state championship game, amassing an impressive four assists.
