USA Lacrosse Magazine announced Tuesday its Division I Women’s Preseason Positional Players of the Year, honoring the best of the best at each position ahead of the upcoming 2022 spring season.

Four athletes earned preseason positional recognition — one attacker, one midfielder, one defender and one goalie. This one day after the Division I Women’s Preseason All-Americans were announced.

Stay tuned Wednesday for the reveal of the Division I Women’s Preseason Player of the Year.

PRESEASON ATTACKER OF THE YEAR
CHARLOTTE NORTH, BOSTON COLLEGE

Could it be anyone else? North is the reigning Tewaaraton Award recipient and set the single-season goals record last spring. A national championship isn’t a bad resumé-booster, either. What can she possible do for an encore? We’ll see soon enough.

PRESEASON MIDFIELDER OF THE YEAR
SYDNEY WATSON, UCONN

Watson has been one of the Huskies’ leaders since she first stepped on campus in 2018, but she reached new heights last season. A USA Lacrosse Magazine first-team All-American, she contributed 56 goals and controlled 136 draws.

PRESEASON DEFENDER OF THE YEAR
EMMA TRENCHARD, NORTH CAROLINA

A returning first-team All-American and last year’s Preseason Defender of the Year, Trenchard can mark anyone in the country and limit their impact. She posted 25 ground balls, 17 caused turnovers and 13 draw controls in 2021.

PRESEASON GOALIE OF THE YEAR
TAYLOR MORENO, NORTH CAROLINA

A Tewaaraton Award finalist and the 2021 IWLCA National Goalkeeper of the Year, Moreno is an athletic netminder who saved 54.9 percent of shots last spring. She finished second in the nation with a career-best 6.65 goals against average and is an emotional leader for a hungry North Carolina team.
