SPARKS, Md. — The USA Lacrosse Spring Premiere, scheduled for Jan. 4-6 in Auburndale, Fla., has been canceled due to concerns related to COVID-19.
The event was to be a key training opportunity for the U.S. women’s national team before this summer’s world championship, highlighted by an exhibition game on Jan. 5 against England.
The decision was made by USA Lacrosse after consulting with members of the team and medical staff about issues related to the recent spike in the number of positive cases in various parts of the country, limited testing resources, the potential for quarantine situations in the event of a positive test and other factors.
“We were looking forward to this opportunity to compete, but the health and safety of our players and staff comes first,” said Skip Lichtfuss, director of national teams and high performance for USA Lacrosse.
