UTICA, N.Y. — It is with profound sadness that Utica College share the news that head men's lacrosse coach Mike Parnell '02 passed away Thursday evening. He was 45.

The Tangerine, Utica's student-run news source, reported that he died from COVID-19 complications. A campus-wide email was sent at 9 p.m. Thursday night notifying the community of the news.

Mike was a treasured friend, colleague, and mentor. He had the deepest love and respect for Utica College, its mission and most of all, its people.

He was a founding member of the Utica lacrosse program as a player and led the program for the past 14 years. He previously served as assistant coach for two seasons and has also coached at Colgate and Brown.

On and off the field, he coached with incredible energy and passion, which earned him the praise of generations of our student-athletes.

The Utica College Counseling Center is available to offer necessary assistance for those who need it.

Mike's wife, family, and friends are close in our hearts and prayers.
