An exceptionally slow start to the game made it appear as if No. 14 Loyola would fall to Towson in a Wednesday night non-conference matchup, but once the first goal went through, everything fell into place.

Towson scored the first two goals of the contest and held Loyola scoreless for more than half of the opening period, but once Livy Rosenzweig broke through with 8:39 let in the first half, the Greyhounds kept rolling.

That goal started a streak of seven straight Loyola goals as the Greyhounds rode that momentum to a 14-10 win. Rosenzweig had two goals and three assists, and Jillian Wilson led all scorers with four goals.

Towson (0-3) battled back, as scores by Molly Lynch, Blair Pearre and Kerri Thornton cut the deficit to 7-5 with 16:01 left in the game, but a 5-0 Loyola run essentially ended all hope of a Towson comeback.

Loyola (2-0) has won each of the past three meetings between its Baltimore rival.

Ohio State Wins In-State Showdown

Liza Hernandez and Maura McGregor each scored three goals and Baez had two goals and two assists as Ohio State (4-1) topped Cincinnati, 15-10. Monica Borzillo had a game-high seven points (four goals) for the Bearcats (0-3), but Cincinnati couldn’t come back after an 8-5 halftime deficit.

Borzillo did cut the deficit to 8-7, but Ohio State answered on a free position from Meg Matey. Hernandez and Nicole Ferrara added on, as the Buckeyes took an 11-8 lead.

Jill Rizzo made 15 saves and surpassed 600 for her career — setting a program record.

• Maria Auth notched five goals and two assists and Quinn Nicolai added four goals and one assist as Penn State (2-0) rolled to a 20-6 win over Duquesne (1-1). Sophia Triandafils tallied a game-high four assists.

• Virginia Tech (3-1) scored the game’s first nine goals in a 19-2 win over Radford. Kayla Frank had three goals and eight assists and Sarah Lubnow had five goals and two assists. Five players scored at least two goals.
