Izzy Scane and Lauren Gilbert added three goals and an assist apiece for the Wildcats, who never trailed in the contest billed as one of opposing strengths in Northwestern’s No. 1-ranked offense (18.21 GPG) and Notre Dame’s No. 2-ranked defense (6.80 GAA). The Wildcats’ 15 goals were the most the Fighting Irish have allowed this season.

Northwestern, coming off of another top-10 win Thursday against Michigan, scored four of the first five goals in the second half to open up a six-goal lead it would not relinquish.

UNC Throttles Duke

Three-time defending ACC women’s lacrosse champion North Carolina has a full head of steam going into the conference tournament. After silencing Syracuse in a top-10 matchup last week, the third-ranked Tar Heels throttled Tobacco Road rival Duke 19-5 on Saturday.

Jamie Ortega scored six goals to go with two assists, and Olivia Ferrucci added five goals in the victory for North Carolina, which clinched the No. 2 seed in the ACC tournament behind Boston College.

The Tar Heels, Notre Dame and Syracuse all finished 5-2 in the conference and will be seeded in that order based on secondary tiebreaker criteria. Virginia is the No. 5 seed, followed by Duke, Virginia Tech and Louisville.

All eight teams will vie for the ACC championship next weekend, with quarterfinals Wednesday, semifinals Friday and championship game Sunday in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The quarterfinal matchups will be Boston College-Louisville, Syracuse-Virginia, North Carolina-Virginia Tech and Notre Dame-Duke.
